Like everything else, my 2020 year in running did not go as planned. I started out as planned with a running retreat in Mexico City with Aire Libre and the F3 Half Marathon. That turned out to be one of two trips and my only race this year. I did start a run streak on 2/20 that I kept up for the rest of the year and tried a few new running challenges.
You can see my quarterly reviews for summaries and products I loved (Q1, Q2, Q3).
Here is my 2020 running year in review:
# of Miles Run – 2435. Average 6.8 miles/day and 46.8/week.
# of Races Run– 1 –that’s 21 less than last year. I ran the F3 Half Marathon in January and the other zillion races I had planned were all cancelled.
# of Miles Run in Races –13.1. Down over 250 miles from last year!
# of Age Group Awards– 1.
Run Streak (new) – I started a run streak (running every day) on 2/20. I’ve run 316 days in a row and have been averaging ~6 miles per day. I was planning to do this “until COVID was over.” I’m going to go until at least 2/20/2021 and then will re-assess. It’s kept me sane and seeing friends so it’s been pretty great.
Fun Race Destinations– none
Coolest Non-Race Runs: – Mexico City and Atacama Desert in Chile.
Best Race– F3 Half Marathon (the only one I ran this year!)
Worst Race– N/A – see above.
Personal Records (PRs)- 0. No surprises here.
Silly Running Challenges – Inspired by Amber’s 40 miles in ten 4 mile runs to celebrate her 40th birthday, I did seven 7 mile runs (in four days) to celebrate my 49th birthday in December. I also did the 12 Days of Christmas running challenge with Wendy. We ran 1 mile, 2 miles, 3 miles, 4 miles each day up to 11 miles Christmas Eve and 12 miles on Christmas. Running 7, 8, , 10 , 11, 12 was no joke – especially as the last 2 days were 20 degrees with a feels like in the low digits.
Exciting Running News: I launched Go Running! Tours in Chicago. I did a ton of test tours in Lincoln Park, Grant Park and Downtown/the Loop. I have a bunch of new routes planned for 2021 when the city opens back up, too! Here’s the 411.
Star Sightings: None.
Number of Sidelining Injuries– 0. Whoo hoo! No bad injuries this year. I tweaked my back doing deadlifts with sore hips from trying out the Nike Next % Tempo shoes that I was gifted for doing a media challenge. The chiropractor fixed me up lickety split!
Best Running Advice I Received This Year: “Just do the best you can.” This was pretty much my 2020 mantra.
Best New Running Product(s) I Tried: This is SO tough – like picking a favorite child, friend or pet. The list is long and I recommend you check out all of the awesome products I checked out this year! Go to giveaways or running and check out my reviews.
I was very excited to receive some Hoka Bondi 7 and Hoka Clifton 7s to test with Injinji socks. I’ll have a full Hoka shoe review soon (with my Rincons and Carbon X in the mix.) The Clifton 7 is a winner!

For a blogging runner, that’s a lot of running blogging! I’m hoping to continue running with joy and gratitude in 2021 and beyond. I’m looking forward to racing again and running in crowds!
I had 4 marathons and many other races on the calendar for 2020. They were all cancelled. I signed up for all four again. Mountains2Beach is Memorial Day weekend. I sure do hope to go to CA to see my in-laws and friends. If the race happens, it will be icing on the cake!
How was your year in running?? Please tell me about it in the comments.
Here’s to a healthy, speedy and happy 2021 and beyond!
