Friday Five: 5 Plant-Based Finds for a Healthy Start to ’23

At the start of the year, many people do “Dry January” or “Veganuary.” I do a “damp” January (a few drinks) and try to eat more plant-based, veggie heavy and home-cooked meals. There are so many great options. I’ve found a bunch of great non-perishable items that help me to stay on track even when I haven’t had time to go grocery shopping.

Here are some plant-based finds we’re trying now:

WhatIF Noodles – These noodles look and taste like traditional ramen, but they’re made with sustainable, protein packed Bambara groundnuts and other superfoods. They’re all natural and have no palm oil, artificial flavors or colors. Each noodle pack comes with one serving of noodles, an oil pack and a seasoning pack. They weigh in at 300 calories or so and 17g of protein per serving. I add veggies for a fast and easy lunch or dinner side dish. The pumpkin is my fave! Get WhatIF noodles and plant milks online and on Amazon.

Everipe Superfood Smoothies – Thanks to their freeze-dried ingredients, Everipe smoothie mixed can be stored in your pantry for up to 1 year. They use 100% real foods and the smoothies have zero added sugars and zero preservatives. They say, “simply blend for 60 seconds with 1 cup ice and 1 cup water (or milk or plant-based milk) and you are superfood sipping!” Get Everipe online and on Amazon.

Dennis’ Salsa and Sauces from Reva Foods – These award-winning products are all natural, fat-free, gluten-free, low or reduced sodium with no preservatives and no high fructose corn syrup. Many are vegan as well. I added green chiles, chicken (and cheese for The Husband) and made some great baked quesadillas with this recipe from Gimme Some Oven. Get Dennis’ Salsas online and on Amazon.

Spero Foods new Pepita Egg – I love Spero Foods’ Sunflower Cream Cheese (read my rave review). They recently launched their pepita egg. The Pepita Egg can be used for scrambles, omelets, quiches, frittatas, or any recipe requiring fresh eggs. It’s the first clean- and minimal- ingredient, pourable, plant-based egg. It’s made from seven (7) simple ingredients. This egg alternative is plant-based, keto-friendly, and allergy-friendly, as its main ingredient is pepita seeds. I mixed it with a Daily Harvest bowl for a veggie scramble. Find Spero Pepita Egg at a Sprouts store near you.

gimme Roasted Seaweed Sheets and Snacks – The folks at gimme sent me an awesome care package. It’s filled with seaweed snacks and restaurant quality seaweed wraps for making sushi and hand rolls. It’s made with the “highest-grade organic seaweed on the planet.” I love the tasty snacks and am planning to make hand rolls and maybe will even try my hand at making some at home sushi rolls. Find gimme online and on Amazon. And stay tuned for a “Tried it Tuesday” giveaway soon.
