Tried it Tuesday: The Functional Chocolate Co. #Giveaway

I met the folks from The Functional Chocolate Company at Sweets & Snacks. They offered me one of each of their bars to try. Each of these beautifully packaged chocolate bars contains functional ingredients targeting a variety of conditions. They make “thoughtful formulations of carefully selected botanicals paired with clinically researched ingredients to tastefully address everyday health realities.” So, it’s basically all natural, gourmet chocolate that’s also a condition specific supplement. That’s a win-win!

Co-founder and single father Chris Peruzzi combined his decades of natural product knowledge with decadent chocolate. He created the first Functional Chocolates as a fun, effective way to care for his kids’ everyday health realities including his daughter’s debilitating PMS symptoms and son’s stress and anxiety. Since then, they’ve added a variety of bars targeting common ailments and health needs.

At Sweets & Snacks!

The Functional Chocolate Company’s bars use dark chocolate that’s ethically sourced from a cooperative of small farmers in South America. All of the bars are vegan, gluten free and use Non-GMO ingredients.

A little testing at home!

There are seven varieties of chocolate with functional ingredients:

  • Rhythm Chocolate – ginger snap flavor to help “pause your PMS.”
  • Energy Chocolate – espresso crunch flavor to help you “get up and go.”
  • Hot Chocolate – vanilla creme brulee flavor to help you “manage menopause.”
  • Carefree Chocolate – mellow mint truffle flavor to help you “stabilize stress.”
  • Sexy Chocolate – champagne and berry flavor to help “launch your libido.”
  • Brainy Chocolate – zesty orange flavor to help you “find focus.”
  • Sleepy Chocolate – blueberry lavender flavor to “promote sweet slumber.”
Good thing I like this flavor 😉

I tried the Hot Chocolate, Energy Chocolate and the Carefree Chocolate. The 60% cacao dark chocolate is very smooth and creamy and I really like the flavors. Each serving of two squares is less than 100 calories and is very satisfying. Unlike some “chocolate” supplements I’ve tried, chocolate is the co-star here, not an afterthought. The chocolate is really good! I have to continue eating it to see if I notice the benefits from the herbal ingredients. They say that each individual responds differently to the supplements – some work right away and others require continued use.
