Q1 ’22 Running Round Up

I always say that I’m more of a “blogging runner” than a running blogger. I do like to write about running, races and tips/tricks for running but that is not enough to call this a running blog – not even close! That said, here is my running recap of the first quarter of 2022. Races and travel are back and I had some fun running opportunities this year so far.

Races run this Q– 3. Miami Half Marathon, Rock n Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon and NYC Half Marathon.

Races Planned for Q2: Good Life Race 5k (4/3), Lakefront 10 (4/10) Blue Ridge Mountains Half Marathon (4/16), Quarryman 10 Miler (5/7) and Mountains2Beach Marathon (5/26). I’m excited for Mountains2Beach as it’s been cancelled the last two years.

Brief Race Reports – I included a few “how I did” postscripts on posts that I wrote on race days. Here is a brief recap of the races I ran this quarter:

1. Miami Half Marathon – February 6, 2022

With temps at 70 and humid for the 6:00 AM start, I wasn’t expecting much for this race. Heat is my kryptonite! I felt better than I expected to and had a lot of fun. I had a mid-race potty stop but finished feeling strong. 1st race in the 50 – 54 age group.

The Results: Net Time – 1:51:37 (8:30/mile). Overall place 1,406 of 9,832. Gender place 311 of 4,845. Division place 12 of 469.

2. Rock n Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon – February 28, 2022

I happened to be in Las Vegas and staying at the host hotel, so I signed up for the half marathon. It starts at 4:30 PM and runs on the strip. I had some mishaps with the race organizers and that was frustrating. The race itself was really fun for the first 10 miles. The last stretch was kind of dull and painful. Running in the evening in the desert did a number on me and I had a rough recovery. It was a fun experience, but I’m one and done for this one!

The Results: Net Time – 1:52:34 (8:35/mile). Overall place 1,239 of 13,344. Gender place 289 of 7,355. Division place 22 of 909.

3. NYC Half Marathon – March 20, 2022

I ran with Team Alex again this year and got to see a ton of friends. The race made the city feel “back to normal.” I had a tough run this year. The weather was good, but a bit warmer than I expected. I felt a bit dehydrated and lost my mojo around 15K. I pulled things together for the last 5K and finished with a smile. I’ll be back at this one again next year!

The Results: Net Time – 1:51:01 (8:28/mile). Overall place 5,726 of 22,351. Gender place 1,610 of 11,454. Division place 90 of 1004.
