March ’22 Runfessions

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up for the new Fit Friday Five. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” March was a busy month for me and it flew by with a lot to runfess.

I runfess… It was great to be back in NYC for the NYC Half Marathon last weekend. The 2020 race was my first cancellation, so it felt amazing to get back to normal with this event. The race felt “normal” in terms of the size and experience. I’ll admit that I didn’t have a great run this year. I felt dehydrated and overheated mid race and fell off my pace. At 15K, I walked a water stop, drank a full Gatorade and a full water and gave myself a pep talk that carried me through the finish. You can’t “win” them all and I’m proud that I was able to get myself back on track and enjoy the last 6K.

I runfess… I’m still on my run streak (today was day 765), but I’m questioning it after Sunday’s race. My legs were tired and have been since last month’s RnR Las Vegas half and Expo West. I had no oomph. I’m ramping up miles for the Mountains 2 Beach Marathon on Memorial Day weekend. I’m trying to decide between 1 – 2 miles two days a week when I do strength and Pilates or two no run days. I’ll keep you posted!

Hopefully we can shed our winter gear soon!

I runfess… I’m excited to lead a series of fun runs on Wednesday nights with Holly in April for Arc’teryx Chicago. If you’re here, check out the details and RSVP here. We’ll run ~5K starting at 6 PM from the Rush St. store. There will be light refreshments after each run and people who attend all four will get a gift from Arc’teryx. [Also, don’t miss Arc’teryx Chicago’s awesome Women’s History Month Giveaway. Ends 3/25. Enter here.]

I runfess… I’ve “found” a really cool new electrolyte supplement with zinc for immune support. I tried Salis at the Miami Half and I bought some to use. I liked it so much that I connected with Glenn, the founder, who’s a former NYC runner living in Miami. Stay tuned for a review and giveaway. Don’t want to wait? Check it out and buy it online here.

I runfess… I enjoyed running on the Strip in the RnR Las Vegas half marathon, but I’m definitely one and done with that race. I had a bad experience pre-race (and don’t plan to run a race with RnR again) and had dehydration and sleep issues post race. Running in the desert and in the evening didn’t really agree with me. Grateful for the experience and putting this one to rest.

Do you have any runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.

I’m linking up with DarleneMichelleReneeJenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Have a great weekend!
