April ’22 Runfessions

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up for the new Fit Friday Five. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” March was a busy month for me and it flew by with a lot to runfess.

I runfess… I changed my spring/early summer marathon plans! I was excited to return to Mountains2Beach which was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. About 10 days ago, we got an email that the race could not get police permits for Memorial Day weekend so they moved it to June 5th. Half of our crew couldn’t go on the new date. I was worried about the potential for it to be too warm and just being disappointed. Plus, our Ojai accommodations were booked that weekend. After some deliberation, I decided to defer and registered for Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN on June 18th. I can run some with my friend, Jen, and think the conditions will be better. It was a tough decision but I’m excited to run Grandma’s again. I’ve run it once – in 2015.

I runfess… I had a blast with the Flex and Flow crew at the Blue Ridge Marathon weekend. I had absolutely no business running this mountain road race. That said, running with Lauren and Jackie was a ton of fun. I loved flying down the huge hills we ran up (wheeeeeee!) and even got 2nd in my age group! The best part was supporting Alexis (in her first marathon – billed as the toughest in the US!), Aaron and Jamie (who ran the DOUBLE marathon!) Our crew of 10K, half marathon, marathon and ultra runners was so much fun. It was great running the last 10K of Alexis’ marathon with her and cheering everyone on. The race weekend was terrific. Thumbs up all around for the Blue Ridge Marathon – especially if you can train somewhere with mountains.

Smiling at Mile 7 of the Lakefront 10

I runfess… I’m still on my run streak (today is day 800). I had a great run at Waterfall Glen followed by a sub 8 minute mile run at the Lakefront 10 a few weekends ago. My legs were hella sore after the Blue Ridge Half (hello hills!) but I’m feeling better now. Still trying to decide whether to keep or finish the streak.

Huge crew despite 35 degree, windy evening!

I runfess… I’m sad that our Wednesday night April fun run series with Arc’teryx Chicago is done. We had such great groups every week. The store closes at 6 so our runs required them to stay open late. We’re trying to get a monthly series going so stay tuned if you’ve been running with us!

I runfess… I’ve been having so much fun at my recent races that I keep signing up for more! Since Mountains2Beach moved, I signed up for the new Bank of America Half Marathon on June 5th and a few other things. I also leading some fun events with Arc’teryx Chicago (May 22 – Dog Jog) and Runstreet (May 21 – Hoka St(ART) Run) in May.

Do you have any runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.
