Friday Five: Summer’s End Runfessions

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for August “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” It’s been cooling off and the sun is coming up later so the end of summer is near.

My Summer’s End Runfessions

1. I runfess… Sorry, not sorry, I’m glad that fall is coming. Fall is my favorite season and my favorite season to run in. I know most people love summer, but heat is my kryptonite, give me fall any day. What’s your favorite season?

2. I runfess… I’ve been having success with doing long runs on Friday. I think the combination of a less crowded path (less stressful) and having a variety of friends joining me has been the ticket. It gives me a lot of confidence for the Chicago Marathon – which is in 45 days for anyone who’s counting. LOL.

3. I runfess… I wish the people behind “Brittany Runs a Marathon” had hired me as a NYC Marathon consultant. I enjoyed the movie and could almost suspend my disbelief on the portrayal of the running scene in NYC. That was until the NYC Marathon sequences. I couldn’t stop nitpicking the way they spliced in the actress into the start, how her friends conveniently popped up when she needed them and her finish time based on the training she did. Super silly, but now I understand why The Husband gets stuck when the cars are wrong in period shows and movies. It’s hard to let it go when you know how something should be. Do you ever get hung up on something in a book or movie?

4. I runfess… I really enjoyed Athleta’s Race for the Planet. If you missed my post, Athleta partnered with Charity Miles and is donating $1/mile up to $24,901 to the Nature Conservancy for runs from July 30 – August 31. It was such a big hit that they raised the goal to $200K! I logged 265 miles (running and walking) with the app and should get to about 285 by the end of August. It helped that I’m training for the Chicago Marathon! Do challenges motivate you?

5. I runfess… I had the opportunity to run some big hills in Berkeley, CA and I’m glad I did. When I was in San Francisco last week, I got in touch with a friend who works near Berkeley. We decided to meet and run in the Berkeley Hills. I’m a total flatlander, but I loved the opportunity to run hills and to catch up with Meredith. The time flew by and it was a such an exhilarating start to the morning. Do you like to run on vacation?

Do you have any August Runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.

Have a great weekend! I hope the weather where you are is however you like it most!
