5 Things I’d Tell You Over Coffee This October ’26

It’s the first weekend of the month, so I‘m linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date.

What is the Ultimate Coffee Date? Imagine we are having coffee together… this post is what I would tell you. So grab a cup, “listen” and then tell me what is going on with you in the comments, please!

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I’m getting excited for the Chicago Marathon. The cooler weather has given me a bit more confidence in my ability to go the distance again. I’m also trying to do less the week of the race unlike the last few years. We’ll see how that goes! [Also, kind of crashing out because race day weather went from perfect to gets hot again. Need to put the forecast away as it will change again, I hope!]

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I’m excited to volunteer at Open House Chicago again this year. I’m not sure where I’ll be but if you’re in Chicago, I’d highly recommend that you check it out. Here’s a link to all of the sites that are participating. In past years, I’ve volunteered at the Bridge House Museum, the Museum of Surgical Science and several private office buildings with cool architectural details/histories. I think this year, I’ll try to volunteer somewhere other than downtown.

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you about my recent run tours. I had such a good time exploring Chinatown and South loop with guests from the US. This week, I did a fun lakefront run with a woman from North Carolina and a 10K bucket list that wound up being longer with a bunch of fun stops with a man from Denmark. He’s a huge Chicago Bears fan and did a bucket list trip that included a Bears game and Blackhawks game. We also helped some high school students doing a city scavenger hunt by singing karaoke with them. So memorable despite less than perfect weather!

If we were having coffee… I’d ask what you’re reading and watching and what your favorite books, movies and shows have been lately. We watched Black Rabbit (a tough one) and The Beast in Me (Oof! I’ll never be able to see Matthew Rhys the same way – he was terrifying!) I finally read Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. It was so good and you could not stop rooting for Demon despite all of the bad circumstances and choices. I read two romances – This Book Made Me Think of You by Libby Page and One Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune. I enjoyed both, but I think my old, cynical heart may be a bit too skeptical for the genre – lol. I started It’s Not What You Think by Clare Mackintosh and I’m enjoying that one.

Same spot. Same week. Different weather!

If we were having coffee… I’d ask if you’ve seen any fun movies or plays lately. I’d tell you that The Husband and I are going to see Operation Mincemeat tonight (Broadway in Chicago has a two week run of it) and I’m seeing the Verity movie with my girlfriends on Sunday. I haven’t been a movie or theater regular since before the pandemic, so I’m excited for both.

If we were having coffee… I’d ask “what’s happening by you?” Please tell me in the comments!
