I caught up with the team from Rip Van at Expo West and Sweets and Snacks this year. Rip Van started as Rip Van Wafels in 2010 have since expanded to carry a full line of better for you treats. Rip Van started from a dorm room at Brown University in 2010. The founder is from the Netherlands and brought stroopwafels to share with his friends. Soon, he and his co-founder were making hundreds of stroopwafels in their dorm and selling them in the quad. Like many BFY snack founders, they wanted treats that were made with “thoughtful ingredients and didn’t sacrifice taste.” They broke down all of the ingredients and rebuilt each one from scratch with fiber-forward formulations and no synthetic fillers.
Now, Rip Van offers seven distinct treats: stroopwafels, wafers, cookies and confections. Together they have one of the largest better-for-you assortments of sweet snacks in the US.
The Crispy Choco Wafers come in three flavors. They are Dubai Choco, Milk Choco Peanut Butter and Milk Choco Hazelnut. All three have 4g of fiber and only 4g of sugar per serving. They are made with real ingredients and no preservatives. They come in two individually wrapped servings – perfect for lunchboxes or sharing!
We liked all three varieties! My favorite was Milk Choco Hazelnut and The Husband voted for Milk Choco Peanut Butter. The Dubai Chocolate has pistachio creme and kunafa – it’s really good, too!
