August ’23 Runfessions!

It’s the last Friday of the month, so it’s time to join Marcia for “Runfessions!” Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” August is coming to an end, so I’m here at the runfessional again. It’s only 6 weeks to the Chicago Marathon – stuff is getting real!

Everything is better with friends!

I runfess… Positive thinking helps! I was dreading the Madison Mini Half Marathon because it’s typically so hot and humid. The morning was a bit milder than previous years and there was SO much shade. I kept reminding myself how lucky we were to have shade for the majority of the run and thinking of how much better it was going than I expected. I’m proud of the effort and for my mindset shift. It was a solid barometer for upcoming marathons, I hope.

I runfess… I’m still on my run streak! Today was day 1,282. I’m still enjoying it but the heat is testing my will. LOL. I was not feeling my planned runs this week but I got some miles in every day and did more than planned a few times.

I runfess… I had some fun with my training this month! I ran the Lakefront Trail from south to north into a 17mph headwind. My friend James had this on his “bucket list.” We got a challenging day but we both agreed that you can’t pick the race day weather so you may as well tough it out. Check out my Instagram reel here.

I runfess… I had so much fun running the CHITown Miles race. As I mentioned last month, I hadn’t raced a mile on the track in 10 years and have done no speed work. I squeaked in under 7 minutes (6:56) and was second in my age group. I loved cheering for friends and watching the super fast heats at the end. I’m going to do some speed work next year and see if I can break 6:30. Goals are good – right?

I runfess… I really like the new on-ear speaker earphones from NWM that I tried recently. They’re great for running or walking. They’re super light and comfortable and they don’t block your ear canal. You get great sound and keep your situational awareness. They have long battery life, too. They also have a microphone for calls and noise cancellation that works very well. They’re great for running or working in a team based setting. Find them on Amazon (affiliate link).

Do you have any Runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.

I’m linking up with DarleneMichelleReneeJenn and Zenaida for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Have a great weekend!
