Friday Five: 5 Reasons to Try TRIM Boot Camp- Guest Post

I met Marissa at the Influencer Summit at Expo East in 2017 and we’ve been friends ever since. Marissa is a board certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, barre teacher and published author. After having her daughter, she was struggling to get back to feeling like herself and getting back in shape. She found TRIM Boot Camp. She liked it so much that she became a coach. Check out why this program works so well for her.

Five Reasons TRIM Works

If you’ve ever been on the diet train or stuck in a fitness plateau, you probably know the feeling of hopelessness I’m about to describe. It may be like a cloud hanging over your head or just a little voice in the back of your mind wondering what you could be doing better or different.

I was there once too.

In my case, I was eating “clean,” cutting out food groups and exercising for hours at a time only to find that my body was putting weight on, not taking it off. I was physically depleted, my hormones were totally destroyed and my confidence was taking a nosedive.

And then I found a 7-week program called TRIM. It involved balancing macros, intermittent fasting, carb cycling, strength training (and HIIT workouts) and something I SWORE I’d never do – counting calories.

I was at my wits end trying to reclaim control over my hormones and see the results I wanted from food and nutrition, so I decided to give it a try – commit to it for 7 weeks and see how it went.

I was terrified, but I decided to trust the process. Do the workouts, track my food and see for myself.

After only 2 weeks I felt more energy than ever, and I was surprised to find that I was eating MORE food than I ever had.

Here’s are some of the reasons why TRIM worked for me.

Carb Cycling: Carb cycling is a way of eating that alternates between low carb and high carb days. More specifically, it allows for low carb days that deplete glycogen and burn fat followed by planned high carb days that increase thyroid output to help control hunger.

It keeps your body guessing and helps you break through the plateaus that can happen when you eat strictly low carb. Not only that, but long-term carbohydrate restriction can also lower your metabolic rate and negatively impact your hormones. This feeds your body the carbs it needs to maintain homeostasis.

Workouts Paired with Nutrition: TRIM also pairs low carb and high carb days with respective workouts for best results. On low carb days, we do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or sprints and on high carb days we strength train.

The HIIT workouts further deplete glycogen stores so your body can burn fat and the strength training workouts utilize the carbs we eat on those days to help grow and repair your muscles.

Progressive Strength Training: The TRIM workouts are designed to deliver lean legs, toned arms and flatter tummies by combining hypertrophic workouts which grow muscles and muscular endurance workouts. The workouts deliver strong muscles without bulk.

Also, the workouts change each week and are progressive meaning they build on each other becoming more challenging week to week. This is so that your body never becomes comfortable thus avoiding a plateau.

Caloric Deficit: As a Holistic Nutrition Coach, I was never a fan of counting calories but one big lesson I learned is that I wasn’t eating enough calories (most women aren’t). By tracking calories, I was ensuring that I was getting enough fuel to support my workouts.

TRIM also helps you calculate your own personal calories so that day by day you get enough calories but over a week, you’re eating in a deficit to support weight loss (if that’s your goal). If weight loss isn’t your goal, we can set you up for maintenance.

Adequate Protein: Protein is key for supporting not just weight loss but also muscle growth. Protein intake is another area where I was seriously lacking before TRIM. I ate plenty of vegetables and healthy fat but not nearly enough protein. By tracking my macros, I could see that I was seriously lacking in this micronutrient. As a result, I learned to prioritize protein and have seen much more muscle tone and definition.
