June ’22 Runfessions

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up for the new Fit Friday Five. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” May was another busy month for me and it flew by with a lot to runfess.

I runfess… I ‘m still smiling from Grandma’s Marathon last weekend! If you’ve been following along, you know that I deferred Mountains2Beach when then changed the date and signed up for Grandma’s three weekends later. We were blessed with a 53 degree start (after 80 degrees on Friday!) and a tailwind for the majority of the race. Practice makes perfect as after 54 marathons, I felt like I nailed my nutrition and hydration. I felt great and was proud of my effort and attitude. I finished with my best time since M2B 2019. I qualified for Boston 2023 with a 6 minute and 7 second buffer at 3:48.53. You can check out my full race recap here.

I runfess… I ran (not raced) a 5K on the Sunday after my marathon. The Ricky Byrdsong Race Against Hate honors the legacy of Ricky Byrdsong, former Northwestern University Basketball Coach, Vice President of Affairs at Aon Corporation, and Skokie resident who was murdered by a white supremacist in 1999 while walking in his neighborhood with two of his young children. It’s a great cause and a fun community event. It’s also in the CARA circuit and I knew I could get at least a few points in my age group. I signed up and made the game time decision to go with Carolyn and enjoyed it!

I runfess… I loved the Chicago 13.1. This is a new race by the group that produces the Chicago Marathon and the Shamrock Shuffle. The course runs through three West Side parks that I have very rarely been to. The course was great but the best part was the engagement of running groups in the community and the fun atmosphere. I didn’t have a great run, but I did well enough to qualify for the NYC Half next year – YAY.

I runfess… I’m still on my run streak (today is day 856). I won’t lie… a few days this week were TOUGH. I’m still trying to decide whether to keep or finish the streak – now I’m thinking maybe 1000 days – arbitrary, I know!

I runfess… I had a ton of fun leading a new 5K (really 6K – oops) run tour through Chicago’s Gold Coast and Lincoln Park. It was a part of Sweatworking Week with A Sweat Life and hosted at Arc’teryx. You can “come along” if you check out my Instagram reel here.

Do you have any runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.

Have a great weekend!
