Have you tried Skyr? Icelandic Provisions Review + #Giveaway

When I ate to eat dairy, I always loved yogurt in Europe. It’s so creamy and usually all natural. My friend Carolyn works at Icelandic Provisions and sent me a bunch of coupons to try their oat based Icelandic-style Skyr last summer. It was SO popular that it sold out in record time. (It’s delicious.) They are working on some supply chain issues and it will hopefully be back soon. She recently shared a bunch of coupons for the dairy versions for me to give away here.

Skyr has been a dairy provision of Icelanders since “the days of the Vikings” and is considered one of country’s national foods. It’s a cultured dairy product that’s thick, creamy and packed with protein. This traditional Icelandic skyr is made with unique Heirloom Skyr Cultures that have been preserved to make skyr for hundreds of years. These one-of-a-kind cultures are what help give our skyr its distinct flavor and texture. It is not too tart, not too sweet and full of flavor.

Icelandic Provisions Skyr “brings you the essence and purity of Iceland in every bite.” They have “classic flavors with a Nordic twist” and pieces of real fruit. It’s high in protein and free from artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners and preservatives. Each cup has up to 17g of protein and only 10g of sugar. The milk for the dairy Skyr comes from family-owned farms in upstate New York that never treat their cows with steroids or artificial growth hormones.

The skyr comes in three varieties – Traditional, Extra Creamy and Fruit & Nut. The traditional comes in 10 varieties including plain, vanilla and a variety of fruit flavors. Extra Creamy comes in 5 varieties including vanilla, cold brew and three fruit varieties. Fruit & Nut comes in 5 varieties including four with fruit and almonds and one with fruit and walnuts.

The Husband enjoyed the Key Lime and Lemon flavors best. In addition to eating the yogurt with fruit or granola, there are a ton of great recipes on Icelandic Provisions’ website. The Plain Skyr is especially versatile for cooking and dips.
