September Runfessions: Almost Marathon Time!

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up for the new Fit Friday Five. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” It’s 2 weeks until the Chicago Marathon (my 4th) and 6 weeks until NYC Marathon (my 21st!). It’s almost GO time! The year started off at a crawl and now it feels like a sprint to the finish.

Team Psycho Achilles – we made it!

I runfess… Hood to Coast went WAY better than I expected. Everything was seamless – none of us were delayed, we only had one runner who couldn’t run and we were prepared for that, all accommodations and vans were as expected. We had a blast. Everyone ran really well (even on hills, gravel, in heat, all legs) and had fun. I’m so glad I said “Yes.” Being older and wiser helps in relay running. Check out my full race report here and some photos on Instagram.

I runfess… I’m still on my running streak and it may have helped me to build a big base for the marathon. I hit 500 days averaging over 6.5 miles/day on July 4th. Today is day 582. I haven’t backed down much from my average and I still did well in my recent half marathon and 20 miler.

Look at me going with the flow at the CARA 20 miler!

I runfess… I’ve been more realistic/conservative in my training and racing this season. Because of my slow miles during my run streak, I’ve had to work at getting some speed back. It’s not fully back, but I dare say having realistic expectations and forcing myself to start slower and try to finish strong has served me well. It seems that I’m learning to take my own advice. Imagine that!

I runfess… I’m having trouble believing that it’s almost October and thus time for the Chicago Marathon. Hopefully, the fall weather will come so I can catch up. The beginning of the year dragged so much and before we know it, the fall racing season will be over. Anyone else feel this way?

Flashback to NYC 2019

I runfess… I’m so curious to see what changes (if any) will be needed to make the Chicago Marathon safe for runners and what the crowds will look like. The half marathon I did had very few changes and everything was outside. It felt great to be out there and the overall mood was very upbeat. I’m hoping for the same in Chicago and NYC!

Do you have any Runfessions to share? Please leave them in the comments.

I’m linking up with DarleneMichelleReneeJenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Have a great weekend!
