Friday Five: A Few Fun Pandemic Happenings

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five. I’m not going to lie, it’s not all sunshine and roses in Chicago these days. That said, there are still some fun, new things we’ve been doing or are planning for the month ahead.

5 Fun Pandemic Happenings

Testing out my running tour routes for Go! Running with A Sweat Life. I’ve been testing two of my running routes to get ready to launch my Go! Running Chicago tours. It’s really fun running with people (in a masked and socially distant way) and telling them fun facts about the city. I’m excited to launch in the coming weeks.

Joining in some running fun. I’m participating in the Media Miles Challenge with Nike Chicago and am planning for Oiselle’s Womxn Run the Vote virtual relay with some friends from Janji. I haven’t done much racing and no speed work, but I enjoyed my running challenges with Runstreet and my 6 month daily run streak.

We made Stephen Gillanders’ yummy steak dinner!

Trying meals from great Chicago Chefs with Daba. When COVID 19 shut down restaurants, a young entrepreneur (who’s a neighbor’s grandson) started an online company to enable great chefs to create great meals and deliver them to your door. He has a new chef every other week and each meal is only $20 – $30/person. We’ve done three so far and have enjoyed all of them. They come prepared with some cooking or finishing required. The directions are great and we feel like our cooking skills are improving.

Planning for a trip to Michigan. I’ve been home for 6 months straight today. I can’t remember the last time I could say that. We cancelled our plans to go to NJ because Illinois is on the quarantine list. We’re renting an Airbnb with Stacy for a few days in mid-September. I can’t wait to spend a ton of time outdoors and “away for it all.”

Supporting local Black owned businesses and displaced hospitality workers. I recently purchased a “Black owned business” snack box from Good Food Brands and my friends at Tea Squares. I got an extra one to give away, too! I’m also checking out Better Day wines from Foxtrot Market. Better Day wines are an exclusive Foxtrot product. The wines are sourced by a local company from some of the best wine regions in America. The label was done by local artist Louis C. and half of the proceeds go to the Chicago Hospitality United Fundraiser to help hourly service workings in the wake of the COVID pandemic. That’s a win-win!

What have you done for fun this summer?

Have a great weekend! And don’t forget my great giveaways!
