Ultimate Coffee Date – NYC Marathon Edition

The-Ultimate-Coffee-Date2-1-600x600It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with  Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0. Since it’s the first weekend of the month, I‘m also linking up with Coco @ Running with Perseverance and Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner for the Ultimate Coffee Date, too. Since it’s the NYC Marathon this weekend, I’m offering up a pre-race coffee date!

What is the Ultimate Coffee Date? Imagine we are having coffee together… this post is what I would tell you. So grab a cup, “listen” and then tell me what is going on with you in the comments, please!

If we were having a pre-race coffee… I’d tell you that I’m super excited for this weekend’s NYC Marathon. It’s my 19th running and the weather is shaping up to be PERFECT. Fingers crossed for low 41 and high of 53, partly sunny and low wind. It’s my favorite race forecast for my favorite race. One of my favorite race mantras is “My kind of race. My kind of day.” If the forecast holds, this will certainly be true. [If you (or anyone you know) is running NYC for the first time, don’t miss my course tips!]

If we were having a pre-race coffee… I’d show you all of the beautiful fall colors at By Pond Farm. I came out to visit Larry and Dan for a few days before heading to NY. It’s unbelievably gorgeous here right now. Larry also cooked up some great, nutritious meals for me. I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to see them in this beautiful setting and am feeling nice and relaxed.

Mile 4 at NYC 2017! Look for this same outfit on Sunday!

If we were having a pre-race coffee… I’d tell you that I’m going to wear the same race day outfit as last year. I’ll wear a bright yellow/green Janji singlet, black shorts, CEP compression long socks and gloves. I may wear arm sleeves in the beginning, too. I have my SPIbelt Glide belt for my phone and fuel. I have my fuel set, too. Pre-race, I’ll have a banana and a Redd Bar with Seattle Gummy Co. Mocca Gummies for energy. Then, I’ll have Run Gum at the start and during the race with Seattle Gummy Co. Performance Gummies. This plan has worked for all of my long runs this summer so I’m sticking with it.

Funning with Lauren and Nicole at the Runstreet Shakeout Art Run in 2017

If we were having a pre-race coffee… I’d tell you that I’m so excited to see so many friends this weekend. I’m having breakfast with Mahala and then heading in to meet Sue at the Expo and then to the Streaker/15+ party at Tavern on the Green. The Husband arrives today and we’re having dinner with a mix of our college friends. Saturday will be more visits and the Runstreet shake out run in the morning. I’m also excited for all of the folks I know who are coming in to run their first NYC Marathon. There really is no other race like it!

If we were having a pre-race coffee… I’d tell you that my number one goal for Sunday is to have fun and smile so much that my face hurts at the finish line. People keep asking me if I have a time goal and I’d be lying if I said no. I do, but frankly, it’s not as important as feeling good and being grateful to still be out there after all of these years! I’m also planning to go back to the finish line with Nicole and Kelly in the evening to welcome in the final finishers. I saw this in the NY Times and social media last year and it looks amazing.

To all my friends who will be running and cheering, I wish you all the best for a safe, fun and satisfying day! Whatever your reasons for running or supporting, may this be an unforgettable and amazing trip through the Big Apple.

What’s happening by you? Please tell me in the comments.

Have a great weekend!
