Ultimate Coffee Date- Italy Edition

The-Ultimate-Coffee-Date2-1-600x600It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with  Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0. Since it’s the first weekend of the month, I‘m also linking up with Coco @ Running with Perseverance and Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner for the Ultimate Coffee Date, too. If you’ve been following on Instagram, you’ll know that The Husband and I are on vacation in Italy. Grab your espresso!

What is the Ultimate Coffee Date? Imagine we are having coffee together… this post is what I would tell you. So grab a cup, “listen” and then tell me what is going on with you in the comments, please!

If we were having espresso… I’d tell you that Rome exceeded my expectations. I’d heard great things, but also that it was crowded and kind of dangerous. We stayed near Piazza Navona in the Pantheon neighborhood. It was charming and a lovely spot. We took a 90 minute tour with a local guide from With Locals to get our bearings and then we hit the ground running. Despite some rain on Saturday and Sunday, we soaked up all the sights! We loved the history, architecture, food and people we encountered. I’m sure coming off season helped! We also had friends meet us on Sunday and Monday which makes any trip more fun.

If we were having espresso… I’d tell you that I loved the running tour I took with SPQ Sight Running tours. I looked into running a 10K that ran past a lot of iconic sites. I couldn’t make heads or tails of the site. [This was actually a blessing because you need a medical clearance to run a race in Italy.] Instead, I met Dario and Allyson (from Indianapolis) and ran 11K while learning about Rome, running in Rome and taking pics at all the major sites. If you’re a runner and visit Rome, sign up for this tour! You won’t regret it!

If we were having espresso… I’d tell you that I’ve only run 10 miles this week and I’ve eaten all the food. I’m not feeling bad about this though because we’ve been averaging over 25,000 steps per day with tons of stairs and up hills. I think this will help my running in the long run. I’d also mention that I’m super impressed with The Husband. He’s been averaging over 20K per day with no complaints! It’s been great and a fun way to take a training break without losing fitness.

If we were having espresso… I’d tell you that I loved Sorrento and Capri. We didn’t expect to get to Capri, so it was extra special! We took a ferry and then a tour where we saw The Blue Grotto, rode the tram to the highest point of the island and visited both towns. Afterward, we walked to the natural arch which was pretty mind blowing. Being in Sorrento and Capri off season was perfect for us. We got a sense of the place without the crowds and were able to stay in a great hotel and eat at the best restaurant with no wait!

If we were having espresso… I’d tell you that it’s been great to be on a week plus vacation with The Husband. We’ve both traveled a ton this year but not together for an extended period. It’s nice to be together with fewer distractions and have “quality time.” I’m really grateful that we were able to make this trip happen! It’s been awesome.

What’s happening by you? Please tell me in the comments!

Have a great weekend!
