I met Christy from Whirlybird Granola at Expo East. She showed us the handy “on the go” 2 oz granola packs with a collapsible spoon. We shared some Boomerang tips and she gave us some granola to try. It was a win-win!
Whirlybird Granola is an all-natural, non-gmo, gluten-free, vegan granola made by hand in small batches. Each batch is sweetened with pure maple syrup and organic agave nectar. They use extra virgin olive oil so that you get all the nutrients without the GMOs. They sweeten the granola with local (Ohio) maple syrup. They take their name from the seed of the sugar maple tree – the whirlybird (a/k/a the helicopters you may have played with as a kid).
Whirlybird Granola comes in three flavors and it’s packed with nuts, seeds and berries. The flavors are Original (with cranberries, pistachios and pumpkin seeds), Vanilla Berry (with dried blueberries, almonds and pumpkin seeds) and Chocolate (which has yummy dark chocolate chunks and almonds).
Whirlybird comes in 12 oz bags and 2 oz on the go packs. The on the go packs come with a spoon inside and the packaging acts like a bowl. This ingenious little bag makes this a great breakfast on the go. Just pour in your favorite milk and eat up.
I tried the Original with almond milk. I love the pistachios and cranberries. The maple and agave blend is sweet but not too sweet. I enjoyed this blend with breakfast or as an afternoon treat.
Next up, I tried the Chocolate on the go pack. I poured the almond milk right in the pack. The dark chocolate chunks and almonds hit the spot. I like this one as an afternoon snack.
Allison tried the Vanilla Berry on the go pack. She said, “It was delicious! I had it with almond milk right in the pouch. I really liked the maple syrup and agave flavor (instead of honey – which is not my favorite). This was a nice change from a lot of the other natural sugar options. I was worried about being able to get all of the granola out of the bottom, but even that was easy! Yum.”
