October ’18 Ultimate Coffee Date

The-Ultimate-Coffee-Date2-1-600x600It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0. Since it’s the first weekend of the month, I‘m also linking up with Coco @ Running with Perseverance and Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner for the Ultimate Coffee Date, too.

What is the Ultimate Coffee Date? Imagine we are having coffee together… this post is what I would tell you. So grab a cup, “listen” and then tell me what is going on with you in the comments, please!

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that while I’m NOT running the Chicago Marathon, I’m LOVING participating in tons of awesome events for the marathon. I also have two NY friends staying with me for the race, too.

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I had the opportunity to meet Olympian Alexi Pappas whose in town to run her debut marathon. She led a brief talk and Q & A with local high school students. You can check out some of the lessons she shared and some great advice from Alexi HERE. She’s an inspiring, bright and engaging person and I hope she crushes the marathon on Sunday!

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I also had the opportunity to meet Elyse Kopecky and hear a nutrition discussion at Nike Chicago. Elyse is the co-author of Run Fast. Eat Slow. and Run Fast. Cook Fast. Eat Slow. with Shalene Flanagan. She shared the story of how she changed her diet and helped NYC Marathon winner and Olympian Shalane Flanagan change her diet to optimize her performance. I also got the new cookbook and added “master Super Hero Muffins” to my goals for the rest of the year.

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I went to a live podcast taping of Terrible, Thanks for Asking. It’s a podcast “about being real honest about the hard things in life. Hosted by Nora McInerny. Nora shares stories of love and loss. This podcast was created after she became a widow at 35. The episode shared the story of a young Chicago photographer whose husband died suddenly and unexpectedly. It was told with humor and compassion. If you like Modern Love and Death, Sex and Money like I do, add this podcast to your list!

Logan Square Runstreet run

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I got to go on the Runstreet Chicago Shake Out Art Run. Runstreet was founded by my friend Marnie Kunz. She takes groups of runners in NY, Chicago and all over the US on running tours to check out street art. The run was in Logan Square just like last year but it was totally different because there is so much new art. This was so much fun.

If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I can’t wait to cheer my friends on in the Chicago Marathon tomorrow. I’m especially excited to support my friend Lynn. You may have seen my posts on Facebook. Lynn has CIPD which is the chronic form of Guillain-Barre syndrome. Last year on marathon day she was in the hospital unable to run one step. This year she’s running the marathon and raising money for CIPD research and the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab where she was treated. You can support her HERE. [Lynn finished in 4:18 crushing her 4:20 goal (under 10 minute miles)! I ran the last third of the race with her and she was in great spirits. It was AMAZING!]

What’s happening by you? Please tell me in the comments.

Have a great weekend!
