Friday Five: Runfessions NYC Marathon Edition

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0. I’m doubling down and linking up with Marcia for September “Runfessions,” too! Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.”

1. I runfess… I’m getting excited about the NYC Marathon next weekend. It feels like I haven’t been talking about it on the blog as much as in the last few years. It’s been a busy October as usual, so the marathon is coming fast. Is it me or is this year just flying by?

2. I runfess… I’m cautiously optimistic about the race. After a miserable first 20 miler at the CARA Ready to Run 20 miler (it was 80+ degrees with high humidity), I wasn’t even sure I should run. Once the temps cooled down (and my cranky glute started feeling better), my long runs improved ten fold. Phew!

The second half is no joke!

3. I runfess… I may have scared some of the flatlanders here at my NYC course talk this week. I showed the elevation chart this year and got more groans than usual. Missed my course talk, here is the post I based it on: My top 5 (more like 50) NYC Marathon Tips.

4. I runfess… I need to take my own advice and start a bit slower this year. I was asked a few questions about negative splits. I looked back at my previous times and splits and am ashamed to report that I’ve always run AT LEAST 8 minutes slower the second half and as much as 20. Ugh. At least I give good advice!

5. I runfess… I can’t wait to see my brother and Dan and our NYC friends. The main reason I love to run NYC is to see our friends and reconnect with the NYC running community. Chicago rocks and we have a great life here. That said, I love being in the thick of things at the NYC Marathon!

Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween!

PS. Don’t forget my great giveaways!
