Friday Five: 5 Fall Fitness Tips

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0. I’m super excited for fall. It’s my favorite season by far. I’ve been seeing comments on social media with people lamenting the end of summer and the shorter days. I thought I’d kick off fall with some fall fitness tips.

5 Fall Fitness Tips:

1. Get up early and don’t hit snooze! The darker mornings cause many of us to roll over, hit snooze and skip the workout. It takes a few weeks to make a habit so push yourself to get up and go in September. You’ll get used to getting up in the darker hours (or earlier than in summer) in no time.

Throwback to a fave fall race – Prairie State Half 2014!

2. Sign up for a race or workout event later in fall. Getting something on the calendar is one of the best ways to kick start a fitness plan. For me, I love having a fall marathon on the calendar to work towards. NYC Marathon – here I come – AGAIN!

3. Find a group or some friends to enjoy the outdoors with. There are lots of groups that run or hike in the fall. Check local running stores and REI. My friends from A Sweat Life are doing their first “Hikeworking” event on September 22. Check it out if you’re in the Chicagoland area. [Don’t miss their $1000 back to self care giveaway, too! Not restricted to Chicago.]

Check out the Activ5!

4. Try a fitness app or device like Activ5 to get in workouts wherever you are. I travel a lot for work in the fall. I’ve mentioned many times that I use fitness apps like the 7 minute workout. Recently, I’ve been testing the Activ5 device. They call it “a tiny gym in your pocket.” With your smart phone, it coaches you through 100s of workouts that can be done most places – even on planes!

Loving this new run jacket and tights from Athleta!

5. Refresh your fitness apparel – and don’t forget the layers! It’s always motivating to have a few new cute fitness outfits to start the season. I got some awesome new tights and a sports bra from Athleta’s new Run collection. I’m hosting a friends and family shopping event in Chicago on September 17 where shoppers get 20% off everything in the store. We’ll also have refreshments and giveaways! Don’t worry if you’re not in Chicago, I have some online friends and family codes to share, too!

Have a great weekend, all!
