Leave the “Overeating Zone” with MealEnders! Review + #Giveaway

I am a fast eater. I like to blame my brothers for this. I am the youngest and the only girl. I had to keep pace to “get my share.” This is also why I do not like to share food, but that is a post for another day! For digestion and for portion control, there is so much advice on thoroughly chewing your food and eating slowly. I work on this, but when I travel and am super busy, I feel like I shovel in food and don’t necessarily wait for satiety clues to stop eating. Not. Good.

I saw MealEnders on a bunch of blogs and was very curious. I wondered if this was one of those “eat a piece of dark chocolate at the end of the meal” solutions – which never work for me. Through my relationship with Fit Approach as a Sweat Pink Ambassador, I had the opportunity to try these for myself and to offer a giveaway so that you can try them, too!

Here is the science behind overeating that MealEnders is working to combat!

Here is the story from their press release:

“MealEnders work with the body’s natural hunger rhythms using a combination of behavioral psychology and sensory science. MealEnders are a safe and sustainable way to curb your appetite – they contain no drugs, added stimulants, herbs or other toxic ingredients.

MealEnders consist of two components: a sweet, outer reward layer and a cooling/tingling inner core. The outer layer provides a measured dose of “dessert,” usually associated with the end of a meal. The inner core engages the trigeminal nerve (the nerve that senses “taste” sensations in the mouth) with long-lasting cooling/tingling sensations to cue the end of eating and clear the palate.

By keeping your mouth and mind occupied for up to 20 minutes (the Overeating Zone—the period when people are full, but continue to eat), MealEnders naturally transition you away from the desire to overindulge, giving your body’s natural satiety process time to catch up. MealEnders come in 25-piece pouches in four flavors: Chocolate Mint, Cinnamon, Mocha and Citrus.”

I definitely believe that it takes time for the stomach and mind to connect. Many years of dieting and rushing through meals can trigger a disconnect. And heck, this all takes patience, which I am short of!

I tried Cinnamon first, then Mocha and Chocolate Mint (I inadvertently skipped trying the Citrus and I am not home to grab them! I will update this when I do). I was a bit worried because I tend to chew hard candy. I had to focus on enjoying the outside layer and then patiently sucking on the lozenge center. The lozenges are tasty and satisfying. They also created a tingly sensation on my tongue. In a way, it was kind of like brushing my teeth – I did not want to eat more (or to have another lozenge). Also, they take 15 – 20 minutes to dissolve and I did find that by the time I was done, I felt full and satisfied from my meal. I like all three of the flavors I tried. The Cinnamon and Chocolate Mint are my favorites. The texture of the coating was not unpleasant and I looked forward to trying each flavor.

These are great to try for a quick, easy way toward changing behavior around eating. I think they are definitely worth a try if you are like me – and have lost touch with your satiety cues. I also like the nutrition profile. Each MealEnders  lozenge  contains  only  two  grams  of  sugar,  15  calories,  and  is  low-fat, stimulant-free,  gluten-free,  kosher  and  contains  no  high  fructose  corn  syrup  or  MSG.  MealEnders contain no drugs and are food based and regulated by the FDA as a food.

Want to try MealEnders? One lucky person will win 4 bags (one of each flavor) – a $50 value. Winner must be 18 or over and in the US or Canada. This offer is void where prohibited. The contest will run through Monday, March 23rd. A winner will be selected and notified on March 24th.
