Tried It Tuesday: Homeopathic + Superfood Edition

I go on kicks trying new homeopathic remedies and vitamins and stuff. Lately, I have tried a bunch of cool things that I wanted to tell you about. I have tried some amazing products and have some great giveaways coming up, too! Stay tuned.

Elderberry-Wellness-SyrupNorm’s Farms Elderberry Wellness Syrup is formulated to “bring natural and soothing relief for seasonal distress.” What kind of distress? Sore throats! The Wellness Syrup contains equal amounts of elderberry extract and honey. It is “perfectly spiced with analgesic cloves to coat your sore throat.” Cinnamon adds “an extra kick of relief.” [Ingredients: Elderberry, water, honey, cinnamon, cloves, sugar (less than 1% by volume), xanthan gum, (less than .04% by volume), malic acid* (less than .04% by volume).]

Wouldn’t you know it? I came down with the beginnings of a sore throat and cold last week after traveling. I tried a few tablespoons of the wellness syrup and it did soothe my throat – better than cough drops. And, it tastes AMAZING! All natural + amazing = a win-win!

Norm’s Farms is a leading producer of elderberry, one of the most sustainable and exciting new crops. This emerging superfruit is packed with Vitamins A, B and C , iron, potassium, and the powerful antioxidants known as anthocyanins. The plants are a perennial and are naturally disease resistant.

Keep an eye out for my full review (and Susie’s contribution) and a $50 giveaway. My advice if you win, get the Wellness Syrup and the delish Elderberry Ginger Pecan Jam! Heck, buy it now online or from Finds’ friend, Abe’s Market!

In the mean time, you can follow Norm’s Farms on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

photo 2Sant is a new “superfood” drink. Well, it is actually a dried fruit that you put in water (or seltzer) to make an awesome healthy beverage. The fruit is grown in India. They partner with small-scale farmers in a direct trade arrangement. The farmers earn above market rate for the organic fruit they grow for you.

Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 6.02.53 PMSant’s fruit contains 3 powerful antioxidants:

  • Garcinol – Promotes digestion and is an anti-cancer agent
  • HCA – Regulates sleep & mood and converts food to energy, not fat
  • Xanthones – Strengthens the heart and acts as an anti-inflammatory
  • Plus vitamin B, vitamin C, potassium, manganese & magnesium

The fruit can be eaten after the infusion – plain or mixed with others ingredients.  Sant “gets along well” with other flavors so it’s easy to create recipes.  You can use Sant’s fruit in granola, smoothies and as a souring agent in cooking. They say (and I agree) that “the fruit is quite astringent on its own.  The flavor is subdued when the fruit is mixed with other ingredients or water.”

I love Sant! I have experimented with a few pieces to a handful and keep refilling my glass with water and seltzer all day. I like the flavor with no sweeteners, but they say you can sweeten it. I think it would be great in tea, but I have not tried it yet. Another cool thing is that this is portable – just put a few pieces in a baggie and be on your way! Suddenly, your water is a superfood infused superstar!

You can follow Sant on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. A 100 gram pouch (up to 100 servings) is only $12! You can get it HERE. Get it! There.

OrganicB121_1When I saw my naturopath, Kelly Simms, blood tests showed that I could use some B-12. I went and got shots for a while but fell off the wagon. I was about to buy some lozenges when I ran into a guy in Whole Foods repping Kind Organics Organic B-12 Spray. I tried it and loved it! I wrote to Kind Organics (a division of Garden of Life) and they sent me some more, Vegan D3 Spray and multivitamins for men and women. I will be posting a full review and giveaway soon, but in the mean time, I will tell you about this awesome spray.

Kind Organics B-12 Spray is Non-GMO Project certified, whole food methylcobalamin in a convenient, delicious raspberry spray. The spray is convenient and tastes good. It is a quick and easy way to get accessible, organic, all natural vitamins.

moringa-powder-713413e3f752728e09a65f441481899fI saw Kuli Kuli on Undiscovered Kitchen and I was really curious. They make energy bars and a powder with a superfood ingredient that I had never heard of called moringa. Kuli Kuli founder, Lisa Curtis, was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger. After a few months with limited fruits and vegetables, she found herself experiencing early signs of malnutrition — a condition that affects over 18 million children across West Africa. A friend told Lisa about moringa, a local tree with highly nutritious leaves and handed her a bag of kuli-kuli, a Hausa food made from peanuts, to make a delicious, nutty moringa dinner. Lisa incorporated moringa into her diet and began to regain her strength. Learn even more about moringa here.

Moringa is gluten-free, vegan, a great source of fiber, calcium and antioxidants. Kuli Kuli’s moringa is sustainably sourced and supports women’s cooperatives in West Africa. Morninga is the only plant that contains a complete protein, iron, calcium and vitamins. It is a “super-leaf.” With Kuli Kuli’s Moringa Powder, you can incorporate the benefits of moringa into your smoothies, meals, and snacks.

But how does it taste? Well, I will be honest, It is an acquired taste. It is very green and earthy. I learned the hard way that the powder is not water soluble. I think the best bet is to add to a green smoothie with a banana or other sweet fruit. Kuli Kuli also makes energy bars in Black Cherry, Chocolate and Almond with moringa. I will have a full review and giveaway of the bars coming soon.

In the mean time, you can follow Kuli Kuli on Twitter or Facebook. You can get the products online or at Undiscovered Kitchen.
