Currently… stealing this idea from Marcia and other bloggers. A post on things of the moment for me.
Books: I am cramming for Book Club and trying to finish Ruth Ozeki’s A Tale for the Time Being. I thought Book Club was next Monday – not tomorrow. I am about 1/3 of the way through the 433 pages. Unfortunately, I decided to read it on my Kindle and there are a zillion Japanese footnotes. (Yup, sorry ladies, I am missing most of those!)
Movies: I was also cramming for the Oscars so saw Philomena last weekend. Loved it! I then looked at an Oscar list and realized I still have a ways to go in seeing the movies. I enjoyed American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and August Osage County.
TV: Other than my Today Show treadmill obsession, I am not much for watching TV. The husband and I finished Orange is the New Black season 1. I was so bummed to see that season 2 will not be on until June. We are about to watch the last season of Breaking Bad which is finally on Netflix. I think House of Cards may be next. Any votes? Another friend suggested the Americans.
Website: I am a bit obsessed right now with some of the habit changing posts by Gretchen Rubin on the Happiness Project Blog. I can’t wait for her new Habits book to come out!
Run: The weather has been so bad here that I am going to wonder where the on button is to start the path when I run outside again. OK, that is an exaggeration. I did run outside yesterday and it was sooooo windy going north. Oy. And we saw an insane car accident which luckily seemed to end without serious injuries (a car ran off Lake Shore Drive, hit a bridge abutment and light pole and flipped over landing on the running path near Diversey Harbor.) The woman and child seemed to be stable when the paramedics arrived. In better news, one of my running gals had wonderful news to share with us and we all quite literally jumped for joy. It must have been a spectacle as we were a pretty big group! I love my running ladies. They make my heart swell.
Non-Run Workout: The usual Pilates and Spin. I need to get into a better strength training routine. I just hate lifting. Any tips for making this more fun? Since Andrew left, I have been so uninspired!
Food: I am a bit concerned that I have a tape worm. I have been very hungry this week. And NO I am not preggers. 100% sure of that. Just HUNGRY. All the time. Still feasting on lots of root vegetables every day. And fruit. And nuts. And everything else not nailed down. I am glad that I read an article that running in the cold burns more calories. I doubt it is that many more.
Drink: Had some nice red wine last night, but my main drink of choice lately (other than coffee) has been ZYM! Amanda and I ran the Cupid’s Dash in Highland Park in February. We won some cash for the local running store and when we went in, there were samples of ZYM. ZYM is like NUUN but it also has a ton of vitamins. They say, “ZYM us the most powerful electrolyte drink tablet our there for intense workouts. It quickly replaces what your body needs – potassium, magnesium, calcium and vitamins.” It has a ton of B6 and B12 which I find really help me with energy, too. I tried the lemon-lime flavor and then wrote to ZYM. They sent me all 4 flavors to try (and they are going to let me host a giveaway, too! I will have that up this week!) The flavors are: Lemon-Lime, Berry, Grape and Orange. The Berry and Grape both have 100 mg of caffeine per tablet. These are my faves for after my morning workouts.
Outfit: Since I have been “working” at home mostly, I have been wearing the heck out of my jeans and sweaters. Even on days where I have not been out for work or appointments, I have been buttoning up my jeans – to make sure I still can! For exercise, I have been loving my gear from Fabletics – a great surprise when it comes to the quality/value. I also just got these awesome 100% recycled tops from Atayne to test. So far so good. And lucky you – review and giveaway coming!
Excitement: I have been talking to a new company about a job (after the disappointment of the position I was planning to take in early January not getting funded). Not sure how it will turn out but I am very jazzed up about the potential and love the creative ideas that are swirling through my head about it!
Pet Peeve: I am usually filled with these, but I can’t really thing of one that stands out for me at the moment. That’s good – right? The one I have ranted about most recently… the very fancy house on Lincoln Park West that has not shoveled or salted their walk ONCE this season. As I almost killed myself for the 10th time this winter on the way to Pilates before 6 AM on Thursday, I nearly rang their bell to disturb them. Don’t worry. I didn’t fall or take vigilante action. I wanted to though.
Wish: I have a simple wish… I wish that after this huge long winter full of extreme weather, we will have a lovely, sunny, flower and butterfly filled spring. Is that too much to ask?
What is keeping you busy these days?
