When I asked what folks were doing for Giving Tuesday, fellow deal finder, Lisa F., told me about an awesome new website/idea: Fashion Project.
What is Fashion Project?
“An idea sparked between two friends and classmates at Harvard Law, Fashion Project was conceived to solve the problem of donating designer clothing to charity. Expensive party dresses and gym shorts aren’t treated the same way when you buy them and we believe they should also be treated differently when it’s time to give them away. Traditional thrift stores are volume businesses set up for low-quality merchandise, causing valuable designer items to be baled and shipped overseas for as little as .40 cents per pound. Consumers wanting to donate their clothes have no other options- until now. By creating a new way of giving focused on personal service and merchandised collections, Fashion Project is able to raise up to 100x more than traditional thrift stores for the items in your closet. Giving has never been this glamorous.
For every item you purchase at Fashion Project, a majority of the net proceeds go directly back to do something amazing in the world. So go ahead, indulge your guilty pleasure…without the guilt. At Fashion Project you’re a hero just for clicking “buy”.
You can buy items and the proceeds are donated to the charity of the original owner’s choice. Or you can donate items and select the charity to receive the benefit. Either way, the charity gets more than if you donated the designer clothes to Goodwill! Donations should be “luxury labels/high end brands, in good condition and freshly laundered.”
If you live in NYC, Chicago, Boston, DC, Los Angeles or San Francisco, you are eligible for “White Glove Concierge” service. If you have 10 or more designer items, you may be eligible for our convenient VIP donation service. A member of their team will come to your home at a time convenient for you and pick up your items for free.
