Friday Finds: Come on Get Happy, Instacart & More!

happifyDo you believe that you can control how happy you are? That is the premise behind Happify. They say that recent scientific studies show that happiness is in fact a skill. Their site has a series of activities you can do to train your brain to be happier. They think you can master “five essential happiness skills.”

How does it work? First you take a baseline and determine what areas of your life/life events are most relevant to you. Then you can participate in activities (organized in tracks). You can then work on these areas and share your successes (if you want to) and work on ways to become more mindful and improve these areas of your life. You can share your activities or just read other people’s examples. The site offers conversation starters, things to try, activities and a great blog.

They also have some great happiness articles on their site including:

What do you think? Is happiness a set of skills? Would you try happify?

instacartIn San Fran or Chicago? Check out Instacart, a new same-day grocery delivery service. They connect you with personal shoppers in your area who pick up and deliver your groceries, so you don’t have to! Their shoppers visit local stores and deliver in as little as 1 hour. The shoppers shop at grocery stores in your area. These can include Safeway, Whole Foods, Costco or Dominick’s. Instacart is not affiliated with these stores. They are an independent software company that links customers with shoppers. Instacart currently delivers in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Chicago area with other areas coming soon!

The site is easy to use. Basically, you pick the items you want online and they match you with a shopper. During checkout you can choose one of these options: Under 1 Hour, Under 2 Hour and Schedule For Later. For orders scheduled later, you can choose dates up to a week in advance with 1-hour windows. Delivery prices vary based on the size of your order and how soon you want it delivered. Most customers choose “under 2 hour delivery” and for orders over $35 worth of groceries delivery is just $3.99 at most stores.
Pretty cool idea – especially for Costco. You can get access to popular items at Costco without a membership – I think! For a limited time sign up for Instacart and you get $10 credit AND free delivery.

I am going to try it! And I will let you know how it goes!
