Friday Finds: Apps to Improve Our Mental Health & Deals!

I came across an article on the top 10 mental health apps and found one on Sleep from Andrew Johnson, a Scottish hypnotherapist. It turns out that he has a bunch of apps, videos and workshops in the UK. Here in the US, the iTunes store has a bunch of his apps for $2.99 on sleep, relaxation, positivity and more and they get great reviews. The Positivity app is an “Apple staff pick”. These four seem worth checking out for less than $12 in total ($2.99 each). The sleep one would be especially good for me!

Positivity – This guided meditation is intended to help you adopt a more positive mindset. Why? A positive outlook can increase the quality of your life. This application can help you “achieve a deep state of relaxation and learn to avoid negative thinking.”

Deep Sleep – This guided meditation is intended to help you overcome insomnia and get to better sleep. According to Psych Central, this “straightforward app features a warm, gentle voice guiding listeners through a Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) session and into sleep.”

Disconnect – Many people these days find it difficult to “disconnect” from their technology – like ME! This app is designed to guide you into a deep, natural state of relaxation and help you introduce a little “tech free” time in your day. (A bit ironic but worth a try!)

Relax – This guided meditation is intended to help you enjoy the benefits of deep relaxation and also better sleep.

Check out other apps by Andrew Johnson HERE or his blog HERE. Worth a try – no?

moodkitI also want to check out MoodKit. This app ($4.99)developed by a pair of clinical psychologists, gives users on-the-go cognitive-therapy techniques for being happier and improving mood/outlook.

MoodKit is designed to “help you apply effective strategies of professional psychology to your everyday life.” With four integrated tools, MoodKit helps you to “take action to improve your life, feel better by changing how you think, rate & chart your mood to monitor progress and develop self-awareness & healthy attitudes.”

I am really curious about this one – again seems worth a try for $5!

What do you think? Worth a try or waste of money? Screen Shot 2013-01-16 at 8.28.49 PM There are lots of great 4th of July holiday deals out there this week:
