Friday Finds: A Bit About Zambia

Today’s “finds” will be focused on what we learned in Zambia rather than deals or finds. I hope that’s OK! And in the spirit of being honest, it will be heavy on the pictures and light on narrative, so we can carry on with our holiday in Cape Town.

We spent 2 days in Zambia at Livingstone visiting Victoria Falls. A few things we learned about Zambia:

> nicest bathrooms in a third world country!
> delicious food- mix of many ethnic tastes (local food and crocodile are delicious. Nshima, the local staple food, tastes like grits!)
> fabulous (and abundant) hotel staff and tourism guides- especially the elephant tour.
> people who work in tourism make on average $200-300 per month and spend about half of that on rent (in Livingstone at least)
> the sellers in the markets are the most aggressive we have ever seen.
> zebras and giraffes can be “tamed” and live in close proximity to a resort.
> the Zambia side of the falls is mostly dry in November, but we got to swim close to the falls and in the “Devil’s Hole”. We took photos at the edge. It was thrilling!
> “sundowners” on the Zambezi river are a good call!
> we loved our time there and highly recommend it!

Here are a few iPhone pics- Neal took a zillion on the regular camera if you’d like to see more when we return:

That’s all for now! We loved our first evening and day in Cape Town! Will do some quick show and tell in a few days! Hope you are doing well!
