New: Saucony Run4Good App and Friend’s Finds

I recently wrote a post on plus sizing for children… and have always been interested in programs to fight childhood obesity and increase kids activity levels. I was really excited to see an email from Saucony about their new Run4Good app. So what is it? It is a run tracking app and an easy way to fight childhood obesity. By tracking your miles with the app, you are helping Saucony and its partners donate to organizations that keep kids active and healthy. All for doing what you love to do anyway, running. Each month, they will set goals (currently 10,000 miles) and if the runners on the app track more than the goals, Saucony and its partners will double their donations. Check out the video and download the app and get moving! It’s a WIN-WIN for you and for kids and their families. Bravo Saucony (and Fleet Feet Chicago one of the initiating sponsors – WOOT WOOT!)

And speaking of running… some Friend’s Finds on marathoning:
Not to be political here, but Molly M., Lynn, Dana and several others sent me this link to the “Paul Ryan Marathon Calculator which gives you your marathon time based on his “recollection” of his. My “Ryan Marathon” personal best would have made me the women’s Olympic marathon champion this year!
Stacy sent me a great blog post by Paul Krugman likening Paul Ryan to the Rosie Ruiz of politics. We had a similar discussion over the weekend, so it was timely (and easier than writing our own post.)

I am not going to say anything about how I feel about Paul Ryan’s politics as this is not a political blog and I don’t wish to engage anyone in a debate here. That said, we runners are some of the most type A, goal oriented people EVER. A 3 hour marathon is a BIG deal and most of us will never attain it in our running life times. It is hard to believe that someone as fit as Paul Ryan would not know that we would expect him to know his time (roughly) and if he chose to ballpark it, we would check. (Someone even made a fake Athlinks page which I sadly did not take a screen print of!) Don’t mess with runners and our times – don’t believe me? The New Yorker asked all of the people who finished around them for their recollections – they were very close! Advice to Mr. Ryan – fib about your golf game or something else… when talking about running, please stick to the facts!
