Go “Beyond Better” with Enlightened #Giveaway

ub5izkok2rs7hn0ylt0hI happened upon Enlightened Good For You Crisps at a Whole Foods salad bar. I was curious about this fava bean snack with three simple ingredients. They are made with broad (fava) beans, sunflower oil and sea salt – that’s all. They also have high protein and fiber and are only 100 calories per serving. I sprinkled them liberally on my salad and then started eating them straight out of the bag. I shared some with The Husband and a friend and we all loved them. My only complaint was I could not stop eating them! Thank goodness the whole bag only had a few servings.

I saw the Enlightened booth at Expo West when I first walked in. I went over and told them how much I loved their snacks and scored some samples (and a contact at the company!) After the show, Brooke followed up with me to offer to send me some new flavors to try and coupons for some of their ice cream, too. Ice cream? Tell me more.

Enlightened is made by a company called Beyond Better Foods. Why Beyond Better? They say, “Everywhere, products tout being ‘better-for-you.’ But what is ‘better?’ ‘Better’ is just less bad. We know it, and we know you know it, too. That’s what drives us.  We don’t settle for ‘better’ — we push boundaries and challenge the status quo.” I love this philosophy!

Beyond Better Foods started with Enlightened Ice Cream in 2013. Their delicious flavors are also nutritious. The ice cream is “filled with protein, fiber and flavor—and light on calories, fat and sugar.” In 2015, they launched Enlightened Crisps. Recently, they launched ice cream pints in seven flavors. The crisps come in 5 flavors and are all non-GMO project verified, vegan, gluten free and soy free. The ice cream comes in 9 types of bars, 2 types of ice cream sandwiches and now pints!

I received a sampler of all five flavors of Enlightened Crisps. They come in Sea Salt, Sriracha, Wasabi, Garlic and Onion and Mesquite BBQ. The small bags are 100 calorie packs. They are perfect to add to your salad or eat as a snack. I quickly tried the Wasabi, the Sriracha and the Mesquite BBQ and shared the Garlic and Onion with Amanda. She loved the simple ingredient list, the tasty seasoning and the crunch.

Sriracha

I liked all of the flavors that I tried, but Sea Salt remains my favorite. It is simple and delicious. I like these much better than chickpea snacks and they have less sugar and more protein – score! Here’s a comparison of Enlightened Crisps to other common crunchy snacks. You will be impressed.

Next, I went to find the ice cream bars at my local Whole Foods. My store only had the Fudge flavor. I am a fan of fudge bars, so I grabbed some. These 70 calorie bars have 8 grams of protein and only 3 grams of sugar with no artificial sweeteners. Some of the other flavors sound amazing to me. I will be on the look out. The pints also have less than 100 calories per serving and some delicious flavors so you should keep an eye out, too. Here is the store locator.

The Fudge bars remind me of a healthy version of Fudgsicles. They only have 3g of sugar and taste very natural with no aftertaste. They are satisfying and filling. They did not leave me grabbing for more snacks as some sweeter desserts sometimes do. As I said, I really want to try the Sea Salt Caramel and the Fudge Swirl flavors.
