Friday Finds: 5 Fave Fall Activities

It’s Friday, so I am linking up with Courtney at Eat, Pray, Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for their weekly linkup. Each Friday, they host a link up — a “Friday Five.” This week’s five is “Five Favorite Fall Activities.” I LOVE fall. It is super easy for me to come up with great things to do to enjoy the fall.

1. Run a Race! For me, fall means the New York Marathon! This will be the 16th year of the last 20 that I have run the New York City Marathon (last year’s recap). I can’t think of anything I’d rather do. Too late to sign up and/or train for a marathon? Try a local 5K, 10K or any run or walk. In my opinion, fall is the best time of year for running!

No leaf peeping here but great hiking! In Boulder with Kelli and Stacy. Now I am wondering what happened to that shirt!

2. Take a Hike. This is a twofer. You can take a hike and do some leaf peeping. Just like running, fall is the best time for hiking. Try someplace new. I need to get to Starved Rock. I am embarrassed to say that we have not been to Starved Rock or Kettle Moraine even once since we moved to Chicago in 2006. Sad but true. Maybe this will be our year.

3. Go Apple Picking. We have an annual tradition of apple picking and donut eating. It is super fun. The Honey Crisps are amazing when you can get them.

4. Go Tailgating.  I went to Rutgers. Back in the day, the team was terrible but the tailgating is great. People in Chicago take tailgating to a new level. They have corn hole and special vehicles and who knows what else. Need some healthy snacks for your tailgate? Check out the healthy snack selection from my friends at nuts.com!

5. Hit the Farmer’s Market and Cook Up a Fall Feast. I am a fanatic for winter squashes and root vegetables. I guess there are worse things to be addicted to! I love the bounty of deliciousness at our local Farmer’s Market and can’t wait to roast up a mountain of veggies.

What is on your fall faves list?
