Currently… Almost Spring Edition

Currently… A post on “things of the moment” for me (#8). [Inspired by Marcia and other bloggers.]

I was here... and here... and here...etc.
I was here… and here… and here…etc.

State of things: I don’t know if I am coming or going… well mostly I have been going. Since my last “Currently” post on January 18th, I have been on more than a dozen flights, run two half marathons and a marathon and gone to a conference and a ton of work meetings. In the mean time, the Husband took two trips that did not coincide with mine. From February 22 – March 21st, we spent seven nights together. We think that is a record for us. Good thing that absence makes the heart grow fonder, huh? I have a three day/2 night trip this week and then 10+ days at home. Phew.

books march 2015

Books: In addition to some $1.99 mystery guilty pleasures from Bookperk, I LOVED The Girl on the Train and liked The Silent Wife (which eerily was about a couple with no kids that lived in a high rise on the lake in Chicago where one of them winds up murdered!). I just finished Nick Hornby’s Funny Girl which I found super enjoyable. (Haters hate this one on Amazon, but I liked it!) I also read a few Louise Penny books that were recommended to me by my friend, Gay. I wonder if there are any towns left like Three Pines. Georgette was nice enough to send me 5 books! I am excited for them all – especially the Jennifer Weiner – a smart guilty pleasure. I will let you know what I think! Have you read anything I should check out lately?

Movies: I have not seen any movies at all since my last post. Hard to imagine… but true! Have you seen anything good lately?

TV: Other than my Today Show treadmill obsession, I am not much for watching TV. We are on season 3 of Homeland now. Claire Danes can be a bit histrionic, but we like it. We got True Detective for the holidays and are looking forward to that, the last season of Mad Men and the next season of Orange is the New Black. What is on your TV dance card these days?

Website/Podcast: Not a website, but I am still loving my daily news emails from theSkimm. I totally get the tone and humor and come out more informed. A win-win. I have been listening to Start Up and added New Tech City on the recommendation of Anna Sale from Death, Sex and Money. I also loved a recent Moth Radio Hour called Ski, Poe, Spa and Towers. The Spa story contained an amazing observation on body image that I am going to blog about and a story that is very similar to a good friend’s on September 11th, 2001.

run
Running and funning!

Run: Since last time I wrote this post, I ran F^3 Half Marathon in Chicago, the Phoenix Marathon on 2/28 and the NYC Half on 3/15. They were all pretty awesome! F^3 had amazing weather for January in Chicago and I helped Allison to run a PR. Susie, Don and I met up with Smitha and Carlee (and a huge crew) for the Phoenix Marathon. We had a blast and it was my best marathon in a long time – 9 years! Read all about it here. I had another great run in the NYC 1/2 and my charity team for Alexandra’s Playground raised over $70,000! Read more here. On tap so far for the rest of this year,  Shamrock Shuffle 8K on 3/29, the half marathon in SLO on 4/25 with Erin, Quarryman 10 miler on 5/9 and Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN on 6/20. Oh and I was also selected to be a Janji ambassador and am trying out some new women’s Injinji socks and a Moji foot massager. More to come on that soon! Who is running and where?

Non-Run Workouts: I have been keeping up the “Smart Workouts” on The J & J 7 Minute Workout and weekly pilates and yoga. Still wearing my Fitbit and still a bit obsessed with getting my steps. Not hard on long run days but hard on rest/non-running days as I work from home. It gets me up and walking on non-running days and that is a good thing!

food fest
A whole lot of awesomeness from the Chicago Good Food Festival

Food/Drink: My cupboard runneth over again with great new products from cool companies. I have so many new things to try and lots of giveaways coming so STAY TUNED. Susie and I went to the Good Food Festival yesterday. We tried so many delicious things and had lunch from The Chicago Diner. We met Chef Silva from Cooked (a fave that I will I will review this week) and got some juices to try, got a freebie from faves Karl’s Craft Soup and Farmer’s Fridge and tried some new delicious stuff. So fun! I mentioned that I have delicious granola from Cocomama to review and share. I have also been trying out Munk Pack Oatmeal Squeeze packs, Breeze Bars, 88 Acres Bars, Off The Farm Bars, Kiss Me Organic Dandelion Tea and more. I also hooked up with 2014 faves Nakd (new flavor) and Fiona’s Natural Foods (new look!) and have giveaways coming soon! Have you tried anything awesome lately?

Excitement: I don’t have many trips coming up. I am excited to get back into my routine. Wow, that makes me sound boring!

Pet Peeve: People who are rude or act like they are the only people who matter – especially on airplanes. Some recent examples include the man singing with his headphones on or the people that move your bag so they can fit their bag in the overhead. Seriously?! What is irking you lately?

Wish(es): Same as last time… just hoping that I can keep all of my balls in the air and that I can continue to have a good attitude and put my best foot forward!

What is keeping you busy these days? Please share in the comments!

PS. Don’t forget to enter my great giveaways.
