Not YOUR Grandma’s Apples – Big Slice Apples Review + #Giveaway

I saw Big Slice Apples on Fat Guy Skinny Wallet’s Instagram feed. I looked them up and wrote to them because I did not see them at my local Target stores. They were awesome and responded by saying, “We LOVE the chance to get Big Slice out into the world, seeing as our Big Slice pouches have launched in to most all Super Target & Target locations.”

So what are Big Slice Apples? They are pouches of ready to eat cooked apples with other wholesome ingredients. They are available in 16 flavors and are naturally gluten free and fat free. They contain no high fructose corn syrup and are non-GMO (except pineapple passionfruit). Most flavors weigh in at 100 calories per pouch or less.

They have three lines – Pure, Fit and Luxe:

  • Pure are the most basic. They are simple and delicious and come in Orange Ginger, Apricot, Natural, Blueberry Pomegranate, Lemon Berry, Chai, and Cherry Vanilla.
  • Fit have added ingredients to promote “energy, power, balance and beauty.” They come in Banana Mango & Hemp Seed, Peach Green Tea & Aloe, Pineapple Passion Fruit & Fiber or Raspberry Hibiscus & Green Coffee Extract.
  • Luxe flavors contain more indulgent ingredients but still come in at under 100 calories per pouch. They add the rich taste of Peach Bellini, Cinnamon Candy, Boysenberry Chocolate, Cinnamon French Toast and Caramel.

All of the lines and flavors are “good for you, and taste fantastic.”

I was lucky enough to get a care package! They sent me Pure in Natural, Cherry Vanilla and Blueberry Pomegranate, Fit in Banana, Mango and Hemp Seed, Pineapple Passion Fruit & Fiber or Raspberry Hibiscus & Green Coffee Extract and Luxe in Boysenberry Chocolate and Cinnamon French Toast – 8 flavors. I broke open the Cinnamon French Toast upon receipt. This is one of my fave flavor combos. I ate it straight from the pouch! Yum. It was a great afternoon snack. It would have been good with yogurt, cottage cheese or on french toast or waffles, too.

I shared several flavors with my girlfriends on a recent running trip. The best thing? We all had different favorites. The Blueberry Pomegranate was thought to be nice alone or with yogurt. The Boysenberry Chocolate was also delish. We thought it would pair perfectly with ice cream, fro yo or pound cake. Any of the flavors would be great with Angel Food Cake for a light, but delicious dessert. The Fit flavors could go into a smoothie, pair with yogurt or be eaten alone as part of your breakfast.

We all loved the idea of the pouches with fresh and all natural ingredients. While I will always pick fresh fruit first, it is not always available. These pouches are great for the office or traveling when fresh fruit is not at hand. The Luxe line is great to create quick healthy, delicious desserts, too! The pouches are $2.50 each at Grandma Hoerner’s online. I imagine Target will have great prices and sales on them – especially for back to school.

Here is a more about Big Slice. Big Slice Apples were first cooked in Grandma Hoerner’s farm kitchen, made from apples straight from the orchard in the late 1800s. Her grandson, Duane McCoy, inherited his grandmother’s recipe. He worked hard to make apples as good and fresh as he remembered them from her recipe. They started out making apples, “big chunky slices slowly cooked in their own naturally sweet sauce” and then they had a BIG idea. They put them in an on-the-go pouch, capturing the rich, natural goodness and flavor of Grandma’s best in “an industry-disrupting package.”

Great news! Big Slice wants to spread the word and the taste! They have offered to send one reader a package of 8 flavors like I received. Please use the Rafflecopter below. Winner must be 18 years of age or older, a US resident and the offer is void where prohibited. The contest runs through September 9th. A winner will be selected and notified on September 10th.
