Thanksgiving Runfessions ’25

It’s the last Friday of the month, so it’s time to join Marcia for “Runfessions!” Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed your local Turkey Trot if you ran it.

Around mile 18 in NYC

I runfess… I’m so glad that I didn’t skip NYC Marathon this year. If you were around last month, you might have seen that I was on the fence after a disappointing run in Chicago (and all year more or less)! I had a blast. It was my slowest NYC of 25 by 19 minutes, but I felt positive and happy, stopped for some hugs and high fives and helped out a bunch of runners in the last 10K. Here’s a link to my recap if you missed it.

I runfess… I didn’t run in a Turkey Trot this year. The one by my house was sold out and I just didn’t feel the need. It is a fun tradition but it’s OK to skip it. I went on a meandering 10 mile run instead as it’s likely to be snowy on Sunday and I’m good with it. Do you normally do a Turkey Trot?

I runfess… I love running in the winter time, but even after all of these years, I over dress the first few chilly runs. A caveat for Chicago is the wind. Beth and I ran up to the Montrose Bird Sanctuary yesterday and there were a ton of people taking photos of the Snowy Owl that landed there. We ran onto the pier and the wind was coming from everywhere. FREEZING. (Otherwise, I was too warm.) Do you keep a log so you can remember what to wear?

I runfess… I’m not signed up for any spring marathons yet. I may sign up for Bayshore in Traverse City because I’ve always wanted to do it and it’s a bit later in the year. I’m planning to take a bunch of weeks off in December and January to see if some rest may help me with my mojo. I’m OK if I don’t run a marathon until Chicago or NYC next year, too. We’ll see how things go!

I runfess… A lot of people have asked me for holiday gift ideas for runners. Stay tuned for my annual gift guide for fit folks next week. There are a few things to consider in my cool weather running tips post. And I’ve recently become obsessed with these fleece sweatshirts from Adidas. I’ve been watching all of the cross country races with my oversized sweatshirt just like in the good old days!

Do you have any Runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.

I’m linking up with DarleneMichelleJenn and Zenaida for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Have a great weekend!
