It’s the last Friday of the month, so it’s time to join Marcia for “Runfessions!” Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” Happy Halloween and NYC Marathon weekend for those who celebrate!
I runfess… I am a grinch when it comes to Halloween – running or not. I don’t like costumes or dressing up – especially not for running. But to clarify, I’m not a hater about people wearing costumes. You do you. Costumes? Yay or Nay?

I runfess… I struggled from step one to the finish in Chicago but the picture DO lie. I think I looked pretty darn good all things considered. All joking aside, I had a tough day but loved the spirit and the crowds. Chicago really rose to the occasion this year! See my full recap here.

I runfess… I set a big goal for NYC this year because it’s my 25th running. I have not been running very well and despite a great training plan from Coach Jen, I needed to step away from it. My goal was to run the same time that I ran in my 1st NYC Marathon in 1996 (3:45.10). I didn’t come anywhere close to that pace in Chicago or my recent halfs. So I decided to let the pace goals go and just have fun. And who knows… 2026 will be the 30th year since my 1st, so if I’m feeling better, I can try that goal again.

I runfess… I’m a bit nervous about the run after tough days in Tokyo and Chicago, but I’m excited for the experience. I have a lot of friends to see and hug and I know NYC will show up to make every one of us feel special. If you have anyone new to the marathon, send them my tips post or Instagram post!
I runfess… I mentioned last month that even though I said I was done with the World Marathon Majors, I applied to the 2026 Sydney Marathon lottery. I got rejected! There’s still the Abbott last chance ones but looks like 2026 will not be my year to run Sydney.
Do you have any Runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Jenn and Zenaida for Fit Five Friday. Join us!
Have a great weekend!
