Friday (the 13th) Five: Unlucky Running Edition

It’s Friday the 13th! [Cue spooky music.] I’m linking up with My First 5K and MoreRunning With AttitudeRuns with Pugs, and Zenaida for the Fit Friday Five (Unlucky Edition.)

5 Unlucky Things That Happen in Running or Racing

  • Nature calls and there’s no where to go! No explanation needed here. This also applies to long porta potty lines that cause you to skip the bathroom or miss the race start.
  • Extreme weather. My kryptonite is heat, but extreme cold or drenching rain are also pretty bad luck on race day (or long run day). Some of my friends have done marathons where they had to change shoes midway from running through flooded courses. I’ve had a few races cancelled for lightning, extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • Forgetting an important piece of gear. I flew out to CA for CIM and had no sports bras with me. Luckily, there was an Underarmour outlet nearby. I also flew to Boston in 2007 with a “pair” of shoes that looked different on the bottom and the top. Because it was a right from one pair and a left from another. Luckily, they were my extra shoes not my racing shoes. I did this on a work trip once, too.
  • Going to the wrong place or getting lost on the course. I accidentally programmed a packet pick up spot into my GPS instead of the race start once. Luckily, we made it to the start and didn’t get a ticket despite my driving like a maniac!
  • Getting chased by (or bitten by a dog) or stung by a bee. All of these things have happened to me – more than once. Just lucky I’m not allergic.

What am I missing?

Have a great weekend and don’t forget my great giveaways.
