Recently I was offered some sampler packs of David bars. These bars have 28 grams of protein and only 150 calories, so they’re the most protein dense energy bars on the market. I’d seen these in a few spots, so I was excited to try them.
David was co-founded in 2024 by RXBAR co-founder Peter Rahal. Their mission is to craft high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are “irresistibly craveable.” What sets David’s formulation apart is that 75% of the bar’s calories come from protein – ~50% more than any other bar. With the obesity crisis, David was built on the belief that protein is a critical foundation for peak health. They deliver high-quality protein with no sugar.
David is designed to support muscle growth while reducing calorie intake and eliminating sugar. The bars are flavored to deliver the delicious taste and sweetness while keeping calories low and avoiding blood sugar spikes. The bars are gluten free but they contain dairy and bovine collagen, so they are not suitable for vegetarian diets. These are good for people taking GLP-1s who are concerned about losing muscle mass.
David bars come in six flavors. They are Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk, Fudge Brownie, Salted Peanut Butter, Blueberry Pie and Cake Batter.
I was pleasantly surprised by David bars. I typically don’t like the very high protein bars with natural non-sugar sweeteners. The taste is not exactly “natural” but they taste good and provide a ton of protein. I like the Fudge Brownie best followed by the Salted Peanut Butter and Blueberry Pie. I like the texture of the bars and they are very filling. They’re a good afternoon snack to tide me over until dinner.
