September ’24 Runfessions – Live from Berlin

It’s the last Friday of the month, so it’s time to join Marcia for “Runfessions!” Runfessions are running truths or “where runners bare their souls and soles.” It may be an unpopular opinion, but I am SO excited that summer is almost over. Fall is my fave season – especially for running. September was pretty summery so far but we did have some nice moments.

I runfess… I’m getting very excited (and nervous) for the Berlin Marathon! It seems like I just started training and POOF it’s on Sunday. We arrived in Berlin yesterday after 3 lovely days in Amsterdam. I hope the extra time will leave me a bit better acclimated than I felt in London. I kept up my run streak after an overnight flight by running 5K before dinner on our first evening in Amsterdam and 2 miles at 5:30 AM before we took the train to Berlin. I was *this close* to skipping it but it is nice to move after all of that sitting. Today is day 1,688. We’ll see how it goes after this marathon on Sunday!

I runfess… I had a blast running with David my Go Running Tours colleague in Amsterdam. Amsterdam is so beautiful and has a rich history. David had so much information to share. I’m glad I took a ton of photos and had time to go back to some places with The Husband afterwards. Check out my reel here. The only challenge is watching out for bikes. I guess I’d get the hang of it if I lived there.

I runfess… We had one cool day in September for the Hidden Gem Half Marathon and it was so great for my confidence. After pretty mediocre runs in all my half marathons this year up to then, I had a really good run. I felt strong and happy and ran 11 of the 13 miles with my friend Allison and 7 of them with Kristen from my team. We chatted and enjoyed the lovely community feel, beautiful day and great competition. My time was similar to the last 2 years and I felt like I could have kept going!

Glad I ran in ’23 but don’t need to go back for a while…

I runfess… I’m surprised that Boston made the times 5 minutes faster in all age groups up to 50-59. The cut off time this year was BQ minus 6:51 (meaning if your time was 3:40, you needed better than 3:33.09 to qualify). I feel like they should make other changes like only having certain races certified (no more REVEL down hills for instance), removing Boston from the World Marathon Majors or my fave idea – allowing first time applicants to get it. I also thought some people were pretty shitty about posting that they got in. It poured salt in some people’s wounds and seems unnecessary to me. I didn’t have a BQ last year but wasn’t planning to apply one way or another.

I runfess… I can’t wait to run Berlin on Sunday and to tell you all about it on Monday! The weather looks great (low 43 high 61 and partly cloudy). It’s my kind of weather. And I think it will be mind kind of race (course, crowds, etc.). I’m ready with my mantra “my kind of day, my kind of race.” Stay tuned!

Do you have any Runfessions? Please leave them in the comments.

I’m linking up with DarleneMichelleReneeJenn and Zenaida for Fit Five Friday. Join us!
