I met Jessica from Jack & Friends Jerky at Expo East. This plant-based jerky is “carefully crafted to ensure as many people as possible not only can eat it, but also enjoy it.” The vegan jerky is made with jackfruit and pea protein. The “friends” are yummy flavor combos. They sent me some to try and share and will send one of each flavor to a lucky reader.
Jessica Kwong founded Jack and Friends in 2019 after she graduated from Cornell with a degree in Food Science. Passionate about crafting food inclusive of different lifestyles, diets, and allergy restrictions, Jessica focused on creating “snacks you can feel good about eating, regardless of your lifestyle or diet.”
Jack & Friends is a plant-based jerky made from jackfruit and pea protein. Jackfruit has a meaty texture when it’s unripe. It also contains a large amount of minerals and fiber. Pea protein is a hypoallergenic and vegan alternative to soy, wheat, and dairy proteins, which are three of the eight major allergens. Jackfruit and pea protein create the jerky’s texture and add to the nutritional value and the additional ingredients create the flavors.
Jack & Friends is vegan and top 8 allergen-free. It’s a good source of protein and fiber and contains no added sugar. It’s gluten and soy free so it fits in to most lifestyles and diets.
Jack & Friends comes in three flavors. They are Tomato & Poblano Pepper (Tom), Sweet Barbecue (Barb) and Ginger Teriyaki (Teri). See what she did there? The “friends” are the ingredients that make this nutritious snack taste great.
I like all three flavors – but Tomato and Poblano Pepper is my fave! The jackfruit gives it a “meaty” texture but not so much that it would be off putting if you don’t eat meat. I love that this has a good amount of protein. It’s a filling and nutritious snack option.
