August is National Wellness Month. Many workplaces are focusing on wellness and putting incentives behind better health habits in and outside of the workplace. I saw a great tip from Four Wellness. They say, “Maximize summertime’s extra daylight and sunshine to develop year-long healthy habits.” That’s a great point. It feels like there are more hours in the day to focus on healthy habits when the days are longer.
5 Wellness Tips for National Wellness Month
Get your Vitamin D. If you can, get outside daily and soak up the sun to get your Vitamin D. You can also get Vitamin D from fatty fish (like salmon) and eating egg yolks. Some foods are fortified with Vitamin D, too.
Stay hydrated. Drink more water if you’re out in the heat. A simple tip to make staying hydrated easier is to use a healthy infused water recipe. Many people find infused water more enjoyable to sip on throughout the day, and the herbs and fruit provide some additional health benefits too!
Eat seasonal fruits and veggies. I love visiting the local farmers markets to get what’s fresh. This week I got Sungold tomatoes and an orange flesh melon among other things. [As an aside, I learned that cantaloupe is actually a brand name – who knew?!]
Get your Zzzzzzs. While sleeping, the body performs a number of repairs and maintenance activities that impact nearly every part of the body. As a result, a good night’s sleep, or a lack of sleep, can impact the body both mentally and physically.
Create a gratitude practice. Even in tough times, there are many things to be grateful for. Spend a few minutes each day reflecting on what you’re grateful for. Consider writing things down so you can look back on it each month or year. Trust me, this one works!
