I found Hu Chocolate at Expo West in 2016. They launched with a line of dark chocolate Paleo chocolate bars and have since expanded into baking chocolate, grass-fed milk chocolate and snack foods. All along, they have kept their focus on ingredients that are simple, straightforward and good for you. Plus, they never sacrifice taste.
This line started from a New York restaurant, Hu Kitchen. Hu Kitchen was an early entry with Paleo/primal food concept. They had strict ingredient “guardrails” and struggled to find a delicious chocolate to fit the concept and parameters they set. They decided to develop their own delicious chocolate that is paleo, vegan and easy to bake with.
Hu Chocolate uses organic, Certified Fair Trade cocoa and cocoa butter. Their dark chocolate bars are Paleo, vegan and organic. They contain no dairy, soy, emulsifiers, gluten, refined sugar or sugar alcohols. The new milk chocolate line uses grass fed milk and other than dairy, it has the same high standards.
Hu offers eight varieties of dark chocolate and five varieties of milk chocolate. The dark chocolate bars are Almond Butter + Puffed Quinoa, Cashew Butter + Vanilla Bean, Hazelnut Butter, Cashew Butter + Raspberry, Salty, Simple, Crunchy Mint, Vanilla Crunch. The milk chocolate bars are Cashew Butter, Simple, Hazelnut Butter + Hazelnut Crunch, Almond Butter + Almond Crunch, Almond Crunch + Coconut Flakes.
I love the original dark and new grass-fed milk bars. It’s hard to pick a favorite but my “go-to” bars are Hazelnut Butter, Cashew Butter + Raspberry and Salty in dark and Simple and Almond Butter + Almond Crunch in milk. I also love the semi-sweet no-sugar added chocolate chips for an evening snack. Just a few does the trick!
Hu also makes two types of chocolate chips and a variety of snacks. I love the grain free cookies, chocolate snack gems and “Hunks.” They’re so good that I’ll cover them in a separate post!
