I’m super excited for fall. It’s my favorite season by far – especially for running. I’ve been seeing comments on social media with people lamenting the end of summer and the shorter days. Not me! My only lament is that fall is too short here in Chicago. I’m kicking off fall with some fall fitness tips.
5 Fall Fitness Tips:
1. Get up early and don’t hit snooze! The darker mornings cause many of us to roll over, hit snooze and skip the workout. It takes a few weeks to make a habit so push yourself to get up and go in September. You’ll get used to getting up in the darker hours (or earlier than in summer) in no time.
2. Sign up for a race or workout event later in fall. Putting something on the calendar is one of the best ways to kick start a fitness plan. I love having a fall marathon on the calendar to work towards. NYC Marathon – here I come – AGAIN! (Oh and Chicago, too ;)) There are also fun workout events happening. You could also take a running tour! Check out my Chicago options here.
3. Find a group or some friends to enjoy the outdoors with. There are lots of groups that run or hike in the fall. Check local running stores and REI. In Chicago, sign up for the A Sweat Life newsletter for some fun events coming up. I love to do Read and Run Chicago events
4. Try a new fitness app or website or head back to the gym. I’ve continued doing virtual pilates weekly and am back in the gym with Bianca for strength training once a week. I use Chi-Society for spin classes and for pilates or HIIT when I’m traveling. I also use Nike Run Club to track my runs. They have some fun workouts in the app, too.
5. Refresh your fitness apparel – and don’t forget the layers! It’s always motivating to have a few new cute fitness outfits to start the season.
