Now that life is getting back to normal, it’s good to have healthy quick lunch options on hand for busy days. I had the opportunity to check out Aahana’s Lentil & Rice Bowls. These tasty, ready to eat bowls based on Indian comfort food recipes are made in small batches and freeze dried. All you need is boiling water and you have a healthy, plant based lunch or side dish in minutes.
Aahana’s was created by a nutritionist who’s also a mom. She wanted to serve traditional, Indian meals with all natural ingredients and solid nutrition. She created recipes based on comfort food favorites in a style known as Khichdi. They use sprouted beans and grains which have a low glycemic index and are easy to digest. Then, she adds vegetables and aromatic herbs and spices like turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and cilantro for unique tastes.
Aahana’s globally inspired lentil and grain bowls are vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO. Each bowl contains 15g of complete plant-based protein. They use organic ingredients and no preservatives.
The bowls come in four varieties. They are Jaipur Turmeric & Coconut, Bombay Cilantro & Green Chilies, Madras Coconut & Ginger and Delhi Green Chilies & Garlic. They all have a variety of spices and vegetables in them, as well.
Aahana’s bowls are perfect for a quick lunch. Since all you need is boiling water, they’re great for the office, on a plane or even when hiking or camping.
I enjoyed all four but the Jaipur Turmeric & Coconut and Madras Coconut & Ginger are my favorites. I like both grains and the spices and vegetables are some of my favorites. These bowls are very filling and they have among the best nutrition profiles of any convenience foods I’ve tried.
