I’ve been wanting to try Sitka Salmon Shares for years. They emailed me to see if I wanted to try a box for a Mother’s Day gift guide idea. Of course I said, “Yes, please.” They sent me an awesome box with two large pieces of salmon and two pieces of halibut.
Sitka Salmon Shares is a Community Supported Fishery (CSF). They deliver traceable to the source, responsible, wild-caught Alaska seafood directly from their collective of small-boat fishermen “no-contact” straight to your door. Members purchase “shares” of the harvest. Like vegetable shares in a CSA, the number of shares bought determines how much fish the fishermen catch! Members receive a monthly home seafood delivery – their “share” – of the catch (4.5-5 lbs per month) for 3-9 months during the season (April thru December).
Our box had two large pieces of salmon and two pieces of halibut. We started with halibut because we haven’t had it in a while. The seafood comes flash frozen and you have to defrost it overnight in the refrigerator.
I made roasted halibut, broccoli and fingerling potatoes from a NY Times Cooking recipe. It was super easy and used only one sheet pan. The fish was delicious and so fresh.
I made the large piece of salmon with another NY Times Cooking recipe. We’d been out all day and I knew that this was a super fast way to have a delicious, nutritious main dish. I made the glaze with dijon mustard and brown sugar and roasted it for 12 minutes. It came out perfectly cooked. We devoured it with some left over veggies and rice.

Have you tried a CFS or CSA?
