Tried it Tuesday: Elmhurst Creamery’s Plant-Based Soft Serve Ice Cream #Giveaway

I’ve been enjoying Elmhurst‘s innovative plant milks for years. This year, I’ve been using a ton of their Oat Creamers, flavored Milked Oats and unsweetened nut milks in my coffee and home cooking. When I saw they were launching Plant-Based Soft Serve Ice Cream Mix with a Zoku Ice Cream Bowl, I was intrigued. They sent me a kit to try and will send one to a lucky reader – so read on!

Elmhurst ran a dairy for over 90 years. In 2017, they went plant based. They use a patented process to make simpler plant milks, including their 2-ingredient unsweetened nut milks that are just nuts and water. Now they’re the fastest growing plant-based beverage company on the market.

Elmhurst sent me their “New Fashioned” Soft Serve Mix and a Zoku Ice Cream Maker. The mixes are 100% plant-based and are made with the finest quality oatmilk. They say, it’s “everything you love about old-fashioned ice cream, but without the dairy!” The mixes work in all home ice cream makers. They’re dairy free, gluten free, vegan and are free of artificial flavors.

Elmhurst Soft Serve comes in two flavors. They are kicking it old school with Vanilla and Chocolate. These are great because they’re good as is or with a big variety of mix ins.

We tried the Vanilla first. We refrigerated the mix and put the Zoku bowl in the freezer both overnight. Then we poured one serving (5 oz) in the bowl. It took a few minutes to get used to the process but once The Husband got the hang of it, it solidified pretty quickly. We mixed in some peanut brittle pieces and put it back in the freezer for 10 – 15 minutes. It was delicious.

I made a small serving of the Chocolate mix as an afternoon snack. The Chocolate was a bit messier but it tastes so much like the fudge pops I loved growing up. It was tough not to eat it as I was making it. I added in some peanut brittle again and it was so good!

The Husband was a bit cranky about the effort but I love the single serving size. The bowl stays cold enough to make more servings, so it’s fun for everyone to make their own. You can also use the mixes to make popsicles if you want to make some ahead of time and keep them in the freezer for another quick treat!
