My friends know me well. My friend Lisa’s former colleague is one of the founders of Fit Grinds. She knows I love coffee and healthy products, so she made an introduction. Fit Grinds makes coffee “with benefits.” They start with certified organic fair trade coffee. Then they add nutrients to “help improve your health without changing the taste of your coffee.”
Fit Grinds was co-founded two health enthusiasts who “want to be allies in supporting your health.” One is a doctor who knows that while most people are eager to eat healthier, it’s hard to do. Initially they talked about creating supplements, but wanted to do something even easier. Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world. They realized that adding nutrients to coffee, without impacting the taste, would make a daily cup of coffee into something automatically beneficial. They also use fair trade Colombian coffee and partner with a coffee roaster that creates jobs for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Fit Grinds makes four varieties of coffee. They are Original, Multi Collagen, Pre + Probiotic and Focus. What’s in them?
- Collagen: Fair trade coffee infused with U.S. sourced grass-fed collagen (types I & III) and chicken collagen (type II).
- Pre+Probiotic: Fair Trade coffee infused with prebiotics (PreticX™) and probiotics (bacillus subtilis)
- Focus: Fair trade coffee infused with nootropics (alpha GPC, L-theanine, and taurine)
- Original: Organic fair trade Colombian coffee
Fit Grinds sent me the Pre + Probiotic and Focus coffees to try. I love the concept as I’m pretty terrible about taking supplements. Additive supplements like collagen sometimes have a funny texture or taste so I don’t use those much either.
We tried the Pre+Probiotic first. The Colombian coffee tastes great and there is no strange texture or taste. We enjoyed it for a week and plan to get more to see if we notice the benefits of the pre + probiotics. I find that taking new probiotics usually takes a few weeks to help with digestion. I like that there’s an “immune boosting” component as we move into flu season.
Next, we tried the Focus. The coffee is similar and again, there’s not noticeable taste or texture change from regular coffee. I’ve tried some nootropics in Run Gum and other products and supplements. We enjoyed the coffee and both felt pretty alert and “with it” on the days we drank it. We’re going to have it for a few more days to see what we think. All in all, I think it’s a cool idea and I love the seamless delivery concept and execution.
