I’ve been enjoying 88 Acres seed based bars and seed’nola since they launched in 2014. I supported their Kickstarter and reconnected with them in 2017 (post). They refreshed their branding and added an awesome line of seed based butters including new NEXTY winning watermelon seed butter.
88 Acres came from the founder’s need to come up with tasty, healthy nut-free snacks for her husband. He has a life threatening nut allergy, so the founder (who grew up on an 88 acre organic farm) started “tinkering” with seed based bar recipes. Once their friends started asking for more, they launched 88 Acres. All of the seed based products are hand-crafted in Boston in a dedicated bakery free of peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, dairy, eggs and soy.
88 Acres recently added protein bars to their line up. The protein bars are seed based with the protein coming from pumpkin seeds. They’re nut free, gluten free, vegan, non-GMO and are FODMAP friendly. Each bar has 12 grams of plant based protein.
The new protein bars come in two great flavors. They are Dark Chocolate Brownie and Banana Bread.
I expected to be on Team Chocolate Brownie, but Banana Bread is the big winner for me. With only 7 ingredients including banana, pumpkin seeds and maple syrup. this is a fresh, delicious combo. It’s naturally sweet but not too sweet. I like the Dark Chocolate Brownie, too, but it tastes like a healthy treat more than a brownie to me.
