I met Tom from Tom & Jenny’s Caramels at the Sweets & Snacks Expo. I’d tried their caramels in a Love with Food box earlier. I didn’t realize that they were sugar free. Typically, sugar free candy has a funny taste or a weird texture. These caramels are delicious. They’re made by a dentist and a James Beard award winning pastry chef. That’s a win-win!
As a dentist, Jenny heard from many patients that sugar free candy didn’t taste good or satisfy sugar cravings. She also thought many sugar free candies were too acidic to be good for teeth and hated all of the artificial sweeteners, flavors and colors. She and her husband started experimenting with making sugar free caramels in their kitchen. Then, they teamed up with a James Beard award winning pastry chef to perfect their recipes.
Tom & Jenny’s caramels are naturally sugar free. They use plant derived sugar alcohols like xylitol and maltitol. They’re gluten free and tooth friendly. Xylitol actively reduces harmful acidity and cavity-causing bacteria on your teeth. They tested the caramels to make sure they’re soft enough not to damage dental work and to melt in your mouth.
Tom & Jenny’s caramels come in five flavors. They are original, chocolate, ginger, coffee and spiced rum. Each five piece serving has 100 calories. The caramels are soft and don’t get stuck in your teeth. They also taste great and aren’t too sweet. I like that I can eat one or two and feel satisfied. My fave flavors are the ginger and the spiced rum.
