Friday Five: “Must Have” Accessories for Summer Running

It’s Friday, so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five. The heat arrived here last weekend, so I have summer running on my mind. I’m not exactly built for the heat, but I do have some products I love to get me through.

Five “Must Have” Accessories for Summer Running

Here are some accessories, fuels and self care items that I need for my summer running.

Fuel, Hydration, Salt and Run Gum – For marathon training and long runs, I’ve been using Honey Stinger Chews for fuel and Run Gum for energy. In the heat, I add salt with Salt Stick caps (or chews). Post run, I re-hydrate with SOS Rehydrate. My fave flavor is Berry. I’ve also added Nooma into the mix. My fave is (surprisingly) Chocolate Mint followed closely by Watermelon Lime.

Sunglasses – I’ve been rocking these awesome Oakley Moonlighters since 2017. From the Grand Canyon to the Lakefront Path, they’ve served me pretty well! They’re super light, fit well and don’t leave any funny marks.

Anti-Chafe and Deodorant – I’m not going to lie, I’m a sweaty woman! I always need a good anti-chafe product and long lasting deodorant in the heat. I’ve always had great luck with Body Glide. I love this small stick for travel. I’ve been trying out this natural, aluminum free deodorant from Crystal. It’s made with essential oils and is paraben and aluminum free. It’s also hypoallergenic. It offers 24 hour protection and also contains moisturizers. It’s a winner. I especially like the Lavender & White Tea fragrance.

Sun Protection – I haven’t always been the best about using sun protection. The folks from MyChelle Dermaceuticals sent me several products to try last summer. They sent a Replenishing Solar Defense Body Lotion (SPF 50), a Tinted Sun Shield Stick (SPF 50), and Sun Shield Liquid Non-Tinted (SPF 50). All of the products are bioactive, ethically sourced and formulated with high-performance ingredients for great results. The body lotion is very moisturizing but not greasy and I’m loving the tinted sun stick, too!

Blister Free Socks – I love my CEP Compression Socks for winter and cool weather running. In the summer, I like Ultralight Compression Socks or sleeves. When it’s really hot, I go with the CEP Compression “No-Show” socks. I’ve love the snug fit and (knock wood) never get blisters when I wear them!
