I found Barukas on Kickstarter. Barukas are nuts from the fruit of the Baruzeira tree in the Brazilian Amazon. They’re “the healthiest nuts in the world” with less fat calories and more fiber than other nuts.
Barukas were brought to the US by “Superfood Hunter” Darin Olien. Local people have been eating these nuts for centuries. The trees are endangered due to cattle ranching and other agricultural practices. Supporting Barukas can help put an end to the deforestation and provide economic benefit to the indigenous villagers. They’ll plant a tree for every five bags sold. Barukas are good for your health and the planet!
Barukas nuts are high in protein, lower in calories than many other nuts and are rich in antioxidants – 4x more than blueberries! They’re high in fiber, zinc, iron, magnesium, potassium and essential fatty acids. Barukas nuts are roasted to unlock the rich nutrition of the nuts.
The Kickstarter perk was “trail mix”with nuts and dried baru fruit. They use the whole fruit. The fruit is dried and and the nuts are roasted. I tried the nuts at Expo West and loved the crunch. The nuts are crunchy and peanut-y. The fruit is sweet but not overly sweet. I must admit, this is not the prettiest snack I’ve tried, but it sure tastes good. The Husband is a fan, too!
The folks from Barukas sent me some of the nuts to try and share. The branding looks great and we love these crunchy, nutritious nuts.
